Abstract: A system includes a circuit board, an inductor including windings mounted on the circuit board, and a plurality of magnetic field containment devices. Each magnetic field containment device includes an independent electrical circuit that is not directly electrically connected via a conductor to any other magnetic field containment device. Each magnetic field containment device also includes a material of a certain relative permeability. Each magnetic field containment device at least partially surrounds the inductor and, in operation, at least partially contains a magnetic B-Field generated by electrical current in the windings of the inductor. The plurality of magnetic field containment devices, in operation, enables a certain saturation current in the inductor.

Abstract: A housing for an electronic device is disclosed. The housing includes a first conductive component defining a first interface surface, a second conductive component defining a second interface surface facing the first interface surface, and a joint structure between the first and second interface surfaces. The joint structure includes a molded element forming a portion of an exterior surface of the housing, and a sealing member forming a watertight seal between the first and second conductive components. Methods of forming the electronic device housing are also disclosed.

Abstract: A thin-film transistor layer, an organic light-emitting diode layer, and other layers may be used in forming an array of pixels on a substrate in a display. Vias may be formed through one or more layers of the display such as the substrate layer to form vertical signal paths. The vertical signal paths may convey signals between display driver circuitry underneath the display and the pixels. The vias may pass through a polymer layer and may contact pads formed within openings in the substrate. Vias may pass through a glass support layer. Metal traces may be formed in the thin-film transistor layer to create signal paths such as data lines and gate lines. Portions of the metal traces may form vias through a polymer layer such as a substrate layer or a polymer layer that has been formed on top of the substrate layer.

Abstract: An electronic device such as a head-mounted display device may include an antenna that radiates through a cover. The antenna may have an antenna resonating element layered onto the cover and having a three-dimensional curvature. The antenna resonating element may have an antenna ground. A pressure-activated connector may electrically couple the antenna resonating element to the antenna ground. If desired, the pressure-activated connector may lock the antenna resonating element to the antenna ground. The pressure-activated connector may include a metal finger, a metal spring, a metal ball, a curling metal receptacle, a dimple, a metal screw, a screw receptacle, metal burs, and/or rotational locking structures. The pressure-activated connector may form a robust mechanical connection between the first and second conductors despite the curvature of the antenna resonating element, which minimizes electrical discontinuities that can otherwise deteriorate antenna performance.

Abstract: A head-mountable device can provide adjustable size and shape for storage, transport, and/or charging. A head-mountable device can provide a bistable adjustment mechanism, such as a bistable hinge, that biases a component of the head-mountable device to either of two configurations. Such adjustability can be provided by a light seal module of the head-mountable device and can facilitate collapse of a head securement element, such as arms for engaging the head of the user.

Abstract: To accommodate variations in the interpupillary distances associated with different users, a head-mounted device may have left-eye and right-eye optical modules that move with respect to each other. Each optical module may have a display that creates an image and a corresponding lens that provides the image to an associated eye box for viewing by a user. The optical modules each include a lens barrel to which the display and lens of that optical module are mounted and a head-mounted optical module illumination system. The illumination system may have light-emitting devices such as light-emitting diodes that extend along some or all of a peripheral edge of the display. The light-emitting diodes may be mounted on a flexible printed circuit with a tail that extends a lens barrel opening. A stiffener for the flexible printed circuit may have openings that receive the light-emitting diodes.

Abstract: A head-mounted device may have a head-mounted housing that is configured to be worn on a head of a user. While the head-mounted device is being worn, displays in the head-mounted device may provide images to eye boxes. The user may view images in the eye boxes. The head-mounted housing may have a forward-facing front portion, may have a rearward-facing rear portion that faces away from the front portion towards the eye boxes, and may have a middle portion between the front and rear portions. The middle portion may have openings that receive left and right optical modules containing left and right displays and corresponding left and right lenses. A camera bracket and optical module guide rails may be centrally attached to the middle housing portion between the left and right openings and may have ends that are suspended in air.
