    Abstract: Aspects of the subject technology relate to a device including a pressure sensor to measure a pressure level in a port cavity. A port allows equalization of air pressure between the port cavity and an outside environment. A vent port within the port cavity allows equalization of air pressure between the port cavity and an internal volume of a housing of the device. A tool is used to activate a heat-generating component of the device while the port is obstructed for a predetermined time duration to enable detecting a sealing efficacy of the housing.

    Abstract: An electronic device may include an environmental sensor. In particular, the sensor may include a layer of metal and be operable as an anemometer, a thermometer, a bolometer, and/or a heat flux sensor. To operate as an anemometer or thermometer, circuitry may heat the layer of metal and calculate an air speed based on a decay of the metal temperature. To operate as a bolometer, a first portion of the metal may have a first optical absorption/insulation (e.g., be insulated), while a second portion may have a second optical absorption/insulation (e.g., be uncoated). Differences in heating/cooling of the first and second portions may be used to measure solar radiation. To operate as a heat flux sensor, different metals may be used, and Seebeck voltages between the different metals may be measured. The metal may be deposited on the housing or may be incorporated into a mesh on the device.

    Abstract: A portable communication device includes a transducer enclosed in an enclosure. An opening allows flow of air between the transducer enclosed in the enclosure and a surrounding environment. The enclosure protects the transducer from misreading due to occlusion of environmental aggressors on the transducer. The enclosure is configured to repel the environmental aggressors away from a surface of the transducer and to keep a portion of the opening unclogged to maintain an air flow to the transducer.

    Abstract: An electronic device may include one or more low-noise pressure sensors for measuring air pressure. The electronic device may include wireless communications circuitry for communicating with external devices also having pressure sensors. Pressure data gathered by an external device may be used as reference pressure data for the electronic device. For example, if both devices are located in the same building, both pressure sensors will detect similar pressure fluctuations due to doors opening and closing and temperature-control systems turning on and off. By subtracting the reference pressure data from the pressure data gathered by the electronic device, calibrated pressure data may be obtained and may be used to reliably detect vertical displacement changes of the electronic device. In other scenarios, the pressure data may be compared with the reference pressure data to determine whether the two devices are in the same MOM.
