Abstract: Compositions, such as personal care compositions, and methods for selectively inhibiting the growth of a detrimental bacteria and promoting the growth of a beneficial bacteria are disclosed. The composition may include a base and one or more fatty alcohols. The one or more fatty alcohols may be present in an amount effective to selectively inhibit the growth of at least one detrimental Gram-positive bacteria and promote the growth of at least one beneficial Gram-positive bacteria on skin. The detrimental Gram-positive bacteria may include Corynebacterium, and the beneficial Gram-positive bacteria may include Staphylococcus.
