Abstract: A timing controller includes an image compensator for generating compensated image data. The image compensator is configured to: divide an input image into plural image blocks; select plural pixels located at one column of the image block as plural target pixels; generate an average representative gray level of the image block according to a histogram of gray levels of the image block; input the average representative gray level into a first lookup table to obtain a first gain; input a vertical pixel position of the target pixel and the average representative gray level into a second lookup table to obtain a second gain; obtain the compensated gray level by multiplying the gray level, the first gain, and the second gain of the target pixel; and replace the gray levels with the compensated gray levels to acquire the compensated image data.

Abstract: A dual LCD device includes a gray LCD, a color LCD stacked on the gray LCD, a backlight assembly disposed at the rear of the gray LCD, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive an input image data and then respectively output a gray cell pixel data and a color cell pixel data to the gray LCD and the color LCD based on a dual cell dimming algorithm. The dual cell dimming algorithm is configured to alleviate a moiré effect caused by light interference between the gray LCD and the color LCD. The dual cell dimming algorithm includes: calculating an initial gray cell pixel data based on the input image data; calculating the gray cell pixel data by spatially blurring the initial gray cell pixel data; and calculating the color cell pixel data by compensating the gray cell pixel data.

Abstract: A method for performing dynamic peak brightness control in a display module and an associated timing controller are provided. The method includes: calculating a maximum value and a minimum value of a previous image to determine a contrast ratio (CR) of the previous image; calculating a maximum level quantity (MLQ) of the previous image, wherein the MLQ represents a number of pixels corresponding to the maximum value; performing pixel data mapping on original pixel data of a current image according to a first gain corresponding to the MLQ, to generate intermediate pixel data of the current image; and performing selective pixel data adjustment on the intermediate pixel data according to a second gain corresponding to the CR and the MLQ, to generate updated pixel data of the current image, for being displayed on a display panel of the display module, wherein the updated pixel data replaces the original pixel data.

Abstract: A timing controller includes gamma correction (GC), line overdrive (OD) and dithering modules. The GC module performs GC on image data of an input image to convert the image data into gamma corrected data within a partial GC range of a predetermined GC range, the line OD module performs line OD on at least one portion of the gamma corrected data to convert the gamma corrected data into line-OD-processed data within a predetermined line OD range, and the dithering module performs dithering on the line-OD-processed data to convert the line-OD-processed data into dithered data within a predetermined dithering range. The timing controller drives a display panel to map first and second partial data of the dithered data into ordinary and extraordinary voltage ranges of the display panel, respectively, for displaying the dithered image while enhancing brightness. A display module including the timing controller, the display panel, etc. is also provided.
