Abstract: In one embodiment, a light-emitting device includes a light source unit which emits polarized light in a first direction, a bending portion which is irradiated with the polarized light in the first direction and bends the light in a second direction, and a lightguide member which is irradiated with the polarized light caused to bend in the bending portion. The lightguide member comprises an exit surface, bends the polarized light in a third direction, and emits the light through the exit surface. The light source unit includes a first source which emits first light, and a second source which emits second light. The bending portion includes a first incident portion which the first light enters, and a second incident portion which the second light enters.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display apparatus includes an array substrate, a counter-substrate and a liquid crystal layer formed of a negative liquid crystal material. The array substrate includes a common electrode, an insulating film, a plurality of pixel electrodes each provided with a slit, and a first alignment film. Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device displays a color gamut defined by connecting a first defined color in first chromaticity coordinates, a second defined color in second chromaticity coordinates, and a third defined color in third chromaticity coordinates. An illumination device of the display device includes green, blue and red lasers. The green and blue lasers emit light of the second and third defined colors, and red laser emits light of a color in fourth chromaticity coordinates. Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal between a TFT substrate including pixels formed in a matrix, and a counter substrate. A pixel electrode is formed in an area surrounded by scanning lines and video signal lines. A common electrode is formed in a lower layer of the pixel electrode through an interlayer insulating film. A long side of the pixel electrode of a first pixel is inclined at a first angle clockwise at a right angle to the extending direction of the scanning line. A long side of the pixel electrode of a second pixel is inclined at the first angle counterclockwise at a right angle to the extending direction of the scanning line. The liquid crystal is a negative type liquid crystal. Further, a protrusion formed in the long side of the pixel electrode has a side parallel to the extending direction of the scanning line.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a backlight unit includes a light source, a first lens, a second lens, and a light guide unit. The light source emits light which is diffused as the light travels in a first-A direction, the light being diffused in a second direction intersecting the first-A direction, and a third direction intersecting the first-A direction and the second direction. The first lens and the second lens are arranged in an optical path of the light. The first and second lenses control the light such that the first lens controls a beam width of the light in the second direction, and the second lens controls a beam width of the light in the third direction, thereby converting the light into parallel light.
