Apparatus, packaging, and methods of manufacture of an integrated circuit are provided. The integrated circuit includes a component of a first type fabricated on a first substrate containing a first material, and a component of a second type fabricated on a second substrate containing a second material. The first material has better compatibility than the second material with fabrication and/or performance of the component of the first type, while the second material has better compatibility than the first material with fabrication and/or performance of the component of the second type. Also described, is a method of making the above-mentioned integrated circuit, the method including, among other steps, the step of disposing the first and second substrates opposite one another, and the step of establishing an electrical connection between the components.
Abstract:
A display device reduces artifacts in displayed images using an illumination device that includes light sources for emitting light and an illumination drive circuit operable to individually modulate each of the light sources. Electro-optical elements defining pixels of an image are each optically coupled to receive light correlated with one of the light sources. A controller loads data representing a portion of the image into those electro-optical elements that are correlated with a modulated one of the light sources modulated to reduce the intensity thereof.
Abstract:
An illumination device for use in display devices produces a spatial pattern of light at different wavelengths using multiple light sources and waveguides. Each light source emits light at a different wavelength. The waveguides define optical apertures that are spatially arranged in a predetermined pattern, and each waveguide is optically coupled to one of the light sources to produce the spatial pattern of light at wavelengths corresponding to the predetermined pattern.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided related to a system for imaging an object and a fiducial reference pattern that is projected onto or beside the object. The captured image of the fiducial reference pattern is used to detect a distortion in the captured image of the object.

Abstract:
A wavelength selective switching device and method for selectively transmitting optical signals based on wavelength utilizes diffraction to spatially separate the optical signals of different wavelengths such that the optical signal of a selected wavelength can be selectively transmitted. The wavelength selective switching device selectively rotates the polarization components of the optical signals such that the polarization states of the polarization components are the same in both incoming and outgoing directions at the diffraction grating. Thus, a diffraction grating with a high grating line frequency (e.g. greater than 900 grating lines per mm for signals in the 1550 nm wavelength range) can be used for diffracting the polarization components of the optical signals in both the incoming and outgoing directions.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a polymer electrolyte battery affording a high capacity density in which a layer of electrode active material mixture containing a polymer has an adequately regulated porosity and/or polymer content. The battery includes a unitary, laminated battery sheet composed of a negative electrode combined with positive electrodes, with a porous polymer separator being placed on both surfaces of the negative electrode. Each of the electrodes comprises a current collector and a layer of active material mixture disposed on both surfaces of the current collector, and the polymer is capable of absorbing and retaining nonaqueous electrolyte. The separator and the layer of electrode active material mixture have a porosity of 30 to 60%. Preferable polymer contents in the layer of active material mixture are in a range of 5 to 10 wt % for the positive electrode and in a range of 7 to 16 wt % for the negative electrode.
