Abstract:
A laminated film in which a metal foil is sandwiched between two polymeric films is cold formed to define one or more blisters, and the base of the blister stamped with indicia, in two discrete stages. The blister is formed in the first stage using a standard technique of advancing a pin in a direction transverse relative to the plane of the film. According to the invention, once the blister forming stage is completed, indicia are stamped into the base of the blister in the second stage by advancing a die from one side thereof to clamp the blister base against a mold held against the other side. The direction of the die and disposition of the die and mold may be selected such that the indicia project inwardly or outwardly from the blister base.
Abstract:
A system and method for determining mismatched or faulty data records in a telecommunications or other system containing large data sets from records in first and second data sets identifies potentially mismatched or faulty data records in the first data set at least in part by comparing records in the first data set to records in the second data set. The potentially mismatched or faulty records identified as potentially mismatched or faulty are verified as defective using at least one predetermined criteria.
Abstract:
An optical slip ring system (1) has a rotor interface (2) which can bolt on to a high speed rotor in a modular manner. The rotor interface (2) has circular circuit boards (7) containing the necessary drive circuits and power supply circuits for transducers mounted on the rotor. The drive circuit on the boards (7) drive three rings of emitter LEDs (9). The drive is frequency modulated and there are a number of transducers associated with each ring of emitter LEDs (9). These signals are frequency division multiplexed to ensure real time processing takes place. A fixed support (3) has a single receiver LED (15) associated with each ring of emitter LEDs (9). Contactless power is provided by an inductive power supply having a primary winding (16) on the fixed support bracket (3) and a secondary winding (10) on the rotor interface (2).
Abstract:
Provided herein is a method for analyzing the affect of at least one agent on a cell or cellular component using an analysis system. The method includes wrapping a droplet in an immiscible carrier fluid using a droplet generator wherein the wrapped droplet includes at least one cell or cellular component and at least one agent. The wrapped droplet then flows through the analysis system using a siphoning effect. The droplet is then analyzed to determine effect of the agent on the cell or cellular component.
Abstract:
A readily burstable slide fastener for an inflatable device, such as a lifejacket, includes a first stringer, a second stringer and a slider slidably mounted on the second stringer. At a weakened region along the slide fastener coupling elements are omitted from each of the stringers so that when a bursting force is applied to this region the coupling elements adjacent thereto are disengaged. Coupling elements are omitted from the top of the first stringer so that when the slider is at the top of the coupling elements of the second stringer, the first stringer can disengage from the slider. When the slide fastener is fitted to an inflatable lifejacket, the stringers are separated completely when the lifejacket is inflated.
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to devices, systems, and methods for acquiring and/or dispensing a sample without introducing a gas into a microfluidic system, such as a liquid bridge system. An exemplary embodiment provides a sampling device including an outer sheath; a plurality of tubes within the sheath, in which at least one of the tubes acquires a sample, and at least one of the tubes expels a fluid that is immiscible with the sample, in which the at least one tube that acquires the sample is extendable beyond a distal end of the sheath and retractable to within the sheath; and a valve connected to a distal portion of the sheath, in which the valve opens when the tube extends beyond the distal end and closes when the tube retracts to within the sheath.
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates methods for analyzing agricultural and/or environmental samples using liquid bridges. In certain embodiments, the invention provides a method for analyzing an agricultural sample for a desired trait including obtaining a gene or gene product from an agricultural sample, in which the gene or gene product is in a first fluid; providing a liquid bridge for mixing the gene or gene product with at least one reagent to form a mixed droplet that is wrapped in an immiscible second fluid; and analyzing the mixed droplet to detect a desired trait of the agricultural sample.
Abstract:
In order to be able to eliminate a fault on a high-voltage DC line with an AC voltage supply system which is connected via a self-commutated converter in a reliable manner with a comparatively low level of expenditure, the short-circuiting current flowing in the event of the fault is reduced by way of driving in each case at least one H-bridge submodule in phase branches of the converter, which is of modular design, so as to generate a counter-voltage to the voltage across the arc. There is also provide a system for transmitting an electric current via a high-voltage DC line, and also a converter.
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to methods of constructing liquid bridges and methods of forming predetermined combinations of samples using liquid bridges.
