Abstract: A method of manufacturing an aircraft photoluminescent marker that comprises a substrate includes providing an ink or coating adapted to be cured with ultra violet (UV) radiation and printing one or more markings directly onto the substrate of the photoluminescent marker with the ink or coating, followed by curing the ink or coating with UV radiation. The substrate is one of a photoluminescent material or a housing, and the marking comprises at least one of a pattern, wording, images, blocks, or indicia.

Abstract: A lighting system for an aircraft cabin includes an electrical light source and a photoluminescent light source. The electrical light source is provided at or near a ceiling of the aircraft cabin and the photoluminescent light source is arranged at or near floor level. The photoluminescent light source defines a path along which passengers can move to an exit and is located in an area that receives a light output from the electrical light source to charge the photoluminescent light source. The electrical light source is adjustable to alter the orientation of the light source to concentrate the light output in the area of the photoluminescent light source to enhance charging of the photoluminescent light source by the electrical light source.

Abstract: An aircraft marking system for an external surface of an aircraft comprises at least one of a photoluminescent material that provides visibility in darkness, a reflective material that provides visibility when illuminated by a light source, and color that provides visibility in daylight. The marking system is applied to the wings, especially wing tips and other areas of the aircraft to reduce the risk of damage from impacts when the aircraft is on the ground and/or to indicate areas for accessing the interior of the aircraft in an emergency.

Abstract: A photoluminescent aircraft floor path marking system includes at least a flexible track having a housing incorporating a flexible, pliable, photoluminescent portion in which the track is bendable to a radius of 1 m or less and the track has a length of at least 2 m, where the track is pliable such that it can retain a rolled or bent radius. The track may be bendable to a radius of from 0.01 m to 1.0 m or optionally from 0.01 m to 0.5 m. The flexible track may be provided in lengths of from 3 m or greater or greater than 10 m. A flexible protective layer may be provided. The flexible housing may include a holder for the photoluminescent material.

The illumination apparatus can comprise a carrier matrix. The illumination apparatus aids location of items such as headphone sockets and power sockets in low lighting conditions so calming passengers.

Abstract: A marker for illuminating an area of an aircraft, the marker including a photoluminescent material arranged to emit blue visible light in response to an excitation and wherein the photoluminescent material has an emission spectrum with a maximum peak intensity of from 450 nm to 510 nm and optionally substantially 490 nm. The photoluminescent material has a performance characteristic such that the emissivity is at least 0.3 mcd/m2 12 hours after cessation of charging at 25 lux for 45 mins optionally at least 30 mcd/m2 6 hours after cessation of charging. The photoluminescent material comprises at least a main pigment containing a Europium and Dysprosium doped strontium aluminate with the formula Sr4Al14O25:Eu,Dy and optionally one or more further phosphorescent pigments. A marker system is disclosed for illuminating areas of an aircraft, the system including a plurality of markers in accordance with the invention. Also disclosed is an aircraft including a passenger cabin; and a marker system as disclosed.
