    Abstract: Fabrication of a heterostructure, such as a group III nitride heterostructure, for use in an optoelectronic device is described. The heterostructure can be epitaxially grown on a sacrificial layer, which is located on a substrate structure. The sacrificial layer can be at least partially decomposed using a laser. The substrate structure can be completely removed from the heterostructure or remain attached thereto. One or more additional solutions for detaching the substrate structure from the heterostructure can be utilized. The heterostructure can undergo additional processing to form the optoelectronic device.

    Abstract: A contact for solid state light sources is described. The solid state light source can include an active region, such as a light emitting multiple quantum well, and a semiconductor layer, such as a p-type layer, from which carriers (e.g., holes) enter the active region. A contact can be located adjacent to the semiconductor layer and include a plurality of small area contacts extending only partially through the semiconductor layer. The plurality of small area contacts can have a characteristic lateral size at an interface between the small area contact and the semiconductor layer equal to or smaller than a characteristic depletion region width for the plurality of small area contacts.

    Abstract: A system for irradiation of grain foods using one or more ultraviolet emitting sources is provided. The system includes an irradiation region in which the grain foods are irradiated by ultraviolet light. The system can include means for moving the grain foods through irradiation region, means for detecting the flow rate of the grain foods moving through irradiation region, and a control system for adjusting power provided to the ultraviolet emitting sources based on the flow rate of the grain foods.

    Abstract: Aspects of the invention provide a disinfecting pad for disinfecting and sterilizing objects. A plurality of pixelated light emitting sources are located on the flexible pad in an array, wherein a pixel characteristic radius is approximately 1/10 millimeter to approximately 1 centimeter and the plurality of pixelated light emitting sources covers at least 25% of the flexible pad. Each of the plurality of pixelated light emitting sources includes at least one ultraviolet radiation source. The system includes set of sensors for acquiring data for the at least one object, wherein the data includes a presence and a location of the at least one object. A control system for selectively operating the at least one ultraviolet radiation source of the plurality of pixelated light emitting sources based on the presence and the location of the at least one object.
