Abstract:
A catalyst bed combination comprising a bed of a particulate copper-containing catalyst and, upstream of the catalyst bed, a guard bed in the form of shaped units formed from lead oxide particles and a particulate support material. The guard bed extends the life of the copper catalyst by absorbing halide contaminants in the process stream.

Abstract:
The present invention relates generally to a composite adsorbent comprising at least a zeolite-containing CO2 removal adsorbent and 10% or more of a metal oxide having a heat capacity of at least 20 cal/mol-° K (83.7 J/(mol·K). The composite is preferably used in a multi-layered adsorption system in a cyclic adsorption process. The adsorption system comprises two or more layers wherein the first layer is at least a water vapor removal adsorbent, such as activated alumina, and the second layer is the novel composite adsorbent. The adsorption system is preferably used in a PSA prepurification process prior to cryogenic air separation.

Abstract:
A combination comprising a bed of a particulate copper-containing catalyst and, a guard bed of a particulate composition containing a) lead and/or at least one lead compound that reacts with hydrogen chloride and b) a support therefor. The lead compound is preferably lead nitrate. The combination is of particular utility for the low temperature shift reaction wherein carbon monoxide is reacted with steam to produce hydrogen and carbon dioxide.

Abstract:
A method of an essentially complete elimination of remaining traces of mercury in gases, such as roaster gases containing SO2, and which have been treated in a chloride washer for removing elementary Hg,. It is characterized in that the gas is introduced to a scrubber plant where the same is washed with a washing liquid such that any content of gaseous HgCl2. The gas is absorbed by the washing liquid and is subjected to a turbulent and mechanical action in the scrubber so as to physically put together any Hg, HgCl2 and Hg2Cl2 and other compounds of Hg present in particle or drop form into bigger aggregates or agglomerates. Thus formed aggregates or agglomerates and present bigger particles are brought to be separated from the gas and then be collected and removed. The invention may be completed with further steps for the elimination of any remaining mercury.
