Also provided are processes for extracting an extract from a source. These processes comprise providing an ester of 1,3-propanediol and mixing the 1,3-propanediol ester with the source. This serves to extract the extract from the source into the ester. The processes also include separating the source from the ester and extract. Also provided are compositions comprising an ester of 1,3-propanediol and an extraction product. In these compositions, the ester can have at least 3% biobased carbon.

A process for providing detergent compositions comprising synthesizing mono and di esters from biologically derived 1,3-propanediol an incorporating said esters into detergent formulations. The basic process involves producing and purifying biologically derived 1,3-propanediol, synthesizing mono and di esters by the condensation of 1,3-propanediol with an acid using a catalyst, recovering the ester and incorporating said ester into a detergent formulation. The compositions made from the biologically derived 1,3-propanediol are also encompassed by the invention.

A composition comprising an ester of 1,3-propanediol and a polymer is provided, and the ester is an ester of biologically-derived 1,3-propanediol. The ester can have at least 3% biobased carbon, at least 6% biobased carbon, or at least 10% biobased carbon. The composition can further comprise biologically-derived 1,3-propanediol. Also provided is a process for producing a plastic material comprising an ester of 1,3-propanediol. The process comprises providing an ester of 1,3-propanediol; and mixing the ester with a polymer.

Disclosed herein are all natural or substantially natural deodorant and antiperspirant compositions comprising 1,3-propanediol wherein the 1,3-propanediol in said all natural or substantially natural deodorant or antiperspirant composition has a bio-based carbon content of about 1% to 100%. In addition, it is preferred that the 1,3-propanediol be biologically-derived, and wherein upon biodegradation, the biologically-derived 1,3-propanediol contributes no anthropogenic CO2 emissions to the atmosphere.

The present invention provides polylactic compositions effecting an excellent mold releasability upon processing and significantly improved elongation at break and impact strength without affecting the transparency. Also provided is a shrink film which decomposes under the natural environment and has excellent transparency, flexibility, shrinkability and mold releasability upon processing by applying the polylactic acid composition to a shrink film. There is provided a biodegradable polymer composition comprising 100 parts by weight of polylactic acid and 5 to 70 parts by weight of EVA. Further, a biodegradable polymer composition is provided comprising the polymer composition with one or more additives selected from the group consisting of 0.05 to 5 parts by weight of a lubricant, 1 to 50 parts by weight of plasticizer, 0.5 to 5 parts by weight of thermal stabilizer and 0.05 to 5 parts by weight of mold releasing agent. These biodegradable polymer compositions are applied to shrink films.

One or more techniques and/or systems are disclosed for a dry-type lubricant for use in a dry product hopper to help improve dry product flow and to improve anti-jamming properties of the dry product. The example lubricant can comprise a hydrophilic fiber, such as cellulose, having a width to length aspect ratio that provides a thin fiber. A plurality of hydrophobic particles are deposited on the surface of the fiber, resulting in a fiber surface exhibiting amphiphobic properties. Further, the fiber can operably absorb water, and then releases the absorbed water to the surface of the fiber under mechanical stress, such as when mixed with a product in a hopper. This can result in the water being disposed on the surface of the fiber, to provide lubrication to a product in a hopper to improve flow and anti-jamming characteristics of the product in the hopper.
