Abstract:
A lubricant composition including ethoxylated long chain primary alcohols and, preferably, boron compounds but excluding most other previously used organic lubricant materials gives superior results in tube pointing operations, especially with thick walled tubes, and is also useful for drawing operations, either subsequent to pointing or independently of pointing, where very high quality surface finishes are desired.
Abstract:
Alkaline diamine track lubricants for use with glass, aluminum and two-piece PET containers and other articles of manufacture are prepared from an admixture of an alkyl diamine and a water-soluble hydrotrope. The diamine lubricants are prepared without the neutralization thereof and have a corrosion inhibitor which is, preferably, a reducing agent and a biocide incorporated thereinto. A source of alkalinity may be employed, as well, to maintain the pH above 8.
Abstract:
Alkaline lubricants for use with glass, aluminum and PET containers and other articles of manufacture are prepared from water-soluble amines. Fatty acid lubricants prepared herefrom are rendered highly dilutable by employing myristic acid as at least a portion of the fatty acid component thereof. Synthetic diamine lubricants are prepared by using the water soluble amines as the hydrotrope for the synthetic diamine, without the neutralization thereof.
Abstract:
Novel compositions useful as fluid gelling agents, especially for use in subterranean applications such as drilling fluids, are prepared by reacting an aqueous dispersion of a clay, such as bentonite, with an aqueous gel of a monodispersed mixed metal layered hydroxide of the formula Li.sub.m D.sub.d T(OH).sub.(m+2d+3+na) A.sub.a.sup.n, where D is a divalent metal, such as Mg, T is a trivalent metal, such as Al, and A represents other monovalent or polyvalent anions, the formula being described in detail in the disclosure.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of substantially spherical monocrystalline vaterite, in particular, of vaterite having a determined size.
Abstract:
An electro-rheological fluid comprising an electrically insulating liquid as the dispersion medium, porous solid particles as the dispersed phase, a dispersant, and a polyhydric alcohol having a boiling point of not lower than 250.degree. C., a melting point of not higher than 15.degree. C. and a viscosity of not higher than 300 cp (as measured at 20.degree. C.), or comprising an electrically insulating liquid as the dispersion medium, porous solid particles as the dispersed phase, a polyhydric alcohol and/or water, and an ashless dispersant.
Abstract:
A vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoroisobutylene copolymer powder is employed to thicken a conventional fluorine-containing liquid lubricant to provide a grease composition which has improved lubrication character in metal bearing subjected to the simultaneous conditions of high load, high speed and elevated temperature.
Abstract:
A low foaming, rust inhibiting composition is disclosed which contains:A. a rust inhibiting amount of a dicarboxylic acid of the formula: ##STR1## wherein Z is COOH or H, and one of each is present, and x and y are from 3 to 9, with x+y=12;B. a foam inhibiting amount of a triglyceride acid of the formula: ##STR2## wherein x and y are integers from 3 to 9, x and y together equal 12. R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are saturated/unsaturated hydrocarbon terminals of fatty acids esterified with glycerol; andC. a base sufficient to adjust the pH of the composition of about 6.5 to 10.5.
Abstract:
Useful compositions are prepared by incorporating into organic materials, crystalline lithium aluminates which conform substantially to the empirical formula(LiA.sub.x).sub.y.2Al(OH).sub.3.nH.sub.2 Owhere A represents one or more anions and/or negative-valence radicals, where x represents a quantity of A ions and/or radicals sufficient to substantially satisfy the valence requirements of the Li,where y is a numerical value sufficient to maintain the crystalline structure, and where n represents the number of waters of hydration, if any.
