Abstract:
There is disclosed a flexible mandrel for making tubular products comprising an elastomeric portion surrounding a reinforcing cable comprised of wire cables twisted around a non-metallic core. There is also disclosed a process for making a flexible mandrel and a process of making a hose using the flexible mandrel.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a metal cord with two concentric layers of wires is provided. The cord includes an internal layer of M wires, M having a value from 1 to 4, and an external layer of N wires. The cord is rubberized from within in situ. That is, during manufacture of the cord, the cord is rubberized from inside. According to the method, the internal layer is sheathed with rubber or a rubber compound by passing the internal layer through an extrusion head, and the N wires of the external layer are assembled around the sheathed internal layer to form a two-layer cord rubberized from the inside. The rubber is an unsaturated thermoplastic elastomer that is extruded in a molten state, and preferably is a thermoplastic styrene (TPS) type of thermoplastic elastomer, such as an SBS or an SIS block copolymer, for example.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a tire having a radial carcass reinforcement, consisting of at least one layer of metal reinforcing elements, said tire including a top reinforcement, which is covered radially with a tread, said tread being joined to two beads via two sidewalls. According to the invention, the reinforcing elements of at least one carcass reinforcement layer are metal cables which, in the so-called permeability test, have a flow rate less than 20 cm3/mn and at least 10% of said metal cables are banded by a strand consisting of multifilament textile fibers.
Abstract:
A two-layer multistrand metal cord includes an inner cord layer and an outer cord layer. The inner cord layer is formed of K>1 inner strands, which are wound in a helix. The outer cord layer is unsaturated and formed of L>1 outer strands, which are wound in a helix around the inner cord layer. Each strand of the inner cord layer and the outer cord layer includes an inner strand layer and an outer strand layer. The inner strand layer is formed of two inner wires. The outer strand layer is formed of N outer wires, which are wound in a helix around the inner strand layer.
Abstract:
Metal cable having two layers of construction 4+N comprising an inner layer C1 of 4 wires of diameter d1 wound together in a helix at a pitch p1, this layer C1 itself being surrounded by an outer layer C2 of N wires of diameter d2 wound together in a helix at a pitch p2, characterized in that said cable furthermore has the following characteristics (d1, d2, p1 and p2 in mm): 0.25

Abstract:
A hybrid flexible wire shaft having an inner portion with the characteristics of a push/pull shaft having at least one layer of wire groups helically wound on a core wire at a relatively high pitch angle, and an outer portion with the characteristics of a torsional transmission flexible shaft having two or more layers of wire groups wound on the central portion at a relatively low pitch angle. Each layer of the outer group is wound in a direction opposite to the wind direction of each adjacent layer of that group. In an alternate construction, the high and low pitch portions are reversed and an additional outer layer is provided which is wound in a direction opposite to the outermost layer of the high pitch portion.
Abstract:
A reinforcing ply for rubber articles includes a plurality of parallel cords enclosed in an elastomeric matrix. Each cord includes three internal core wires and six external crown wires. The core wires and the crown wires have a same diameter. In a cross section of the reinforcing ply, a ratio between an area of the cords and an area of the elastomeric matrix is not greater than 6:10. A tire including a carcass provided with at least one carcass ply, a tread band, and a belt package is also disclosed. The belt package is provided with at least two reinforcing layers between the at least one carcass ply and the tread band. At least one of the reinforcing layers includes the reinforcing ply.
Abstract:
A steel cord for the reinforcement of rubber articles comprises a core comprised of three steel filaments, a first sheath formed by twisting nine wave-formed steel filaments around the core, and a second sheath formed by twisting fifteen wave-formed steel filaments around the first sheath in a direction opposite to the twisting direction of the first sheath, in which a forming ratio F.sub.1 of each filament in the first sheath and a forming ratio F.sub.2 of each filament in the second sheath are within a range of 0.75-0.95, respectively, and satisfy Fi.sub.1
