Abstract: A fuel cell system includes a first fuel cell stack, a second fuel cell stack, a supply pipeline having a branching portion, a discharge pipeline having a merging portion, a first branching pipeline, a second branching pipeline, a first merging pipeline and a second merging pipeline. Sizes of cross sections of flows of the respective pipelines are the same. A length of the first branching pipeline connected to the branching portion and the first fuel cell stack is shorter than a length of the second branching pipeline connected to the branching portion and the second fuel cell stack. A length of the first merging pipeline connected to the merging portion and the first fuel cell stack is greater than a length of the second merging pipeline connected to the merging portion and the second fuel cell stack.

Abstract: The invention relates to an air-supply device for fuel-cell systems with two-stage compression. The invention is characterized in that for supplying to fuel-cell stacks electrically connected in parallel, a turbocompressor which is mechanically coupled to an exhaust-air turbine for the respective fuel-cell stack is provided for each of the fuel-cell stacks, wherein at least one electrically driven flow compressor, which respectively provides at least two of the turbocompressors with air in parallel, is provided upstream of the respective turbocompressor in the direction of flow of the compressed air. A fuel-cell system with at least two fuel-cell stacks comprises such an air-supply and can be used for example in a vehicle, in particular in a commercial vehicle.

The controller is configured to, in response to discharging the lithium-air battery, generate the concentrated oxygen to be supplied to the lithium-air battery by driving one of the first oxygen concentration member or the second oxygen concentration member and regenerate the other of the first oxygen concentration member or the second oxygen concentration member by driving the vacuum pump while the concentrated oxygen is generated.

The fuel is sequentially circulated between the scattering module, the cell module, the first fuel storage module, and the second fuel storage module.

Abstract: An energy storage system having a first, gravity-based energy storage sub-system having at least one weight movable between a first upper position and a second lower position defining a vertical displacement and a second energy storage sub-system comprising a vessel for storage of a pressurized fuel gas has an electrical input/output connection with an external power system and at least one of: a fuel gas inlet for supply of a fuel gas to the energy storage system from an external fuel gas supply or network; and a fuel gas outlet for supply of a fuel gas from the energy storage system to an external fuel gas user or network, and/or has at least one of: a gas to power conversion arrangement for converting energy from fuel gas to electrical energy for storage in the first energy storage sub-system or export to an external power system via the electrical output connection; and a power to gas conversion arrangement for converting electrical energy to a fuel gas for storage in the second energy storage sub-system or export to an external fuel gas user or network via a fuel gas outlet, where a control system is configured to control cooperative or complimentary operation of the first and second energy storage sub-systems according to the requirements of the external power system and/or external fuel gas network or user. The system as defined enable energy storage (charge) and discharge of the system linked to an external power system such as an electricity grid to store energy using a gravity-based storage arrangement to make use of its rapid response time and rapid charge/discharge speed, while providing an enhanced capacity of energy storage.

Abstract: Designs of redox flow battery arrays and methods for balancing state of charge within the arrays are disclosed. Flow battery unit strings in the arrays which comprise strings of flow battery units (in which units share a common electrolyte pair) are balanced by measuring the states of charge of the common electrolyte pairs and appropriately regulating flow in one or more of the associated anolyte and catholyte circuits so as to balance the state-of charge in the flow battery unit strings. The apparatus required, i.e. state-of-charge measuring device, flow regulator, and controller, represents a substantial simplification to state of the art approaches.
