Abstract: Described herein is a force attenuator for a force sensor. The force attenuator can linearly attenuate the force applied on the force sensor and therefore significantly extend the maximum sensing range of the force sensor. The area ratio of the force attenuator to the force sensor determines the maximum load available in a linear fashion.

Abstract: Gravity-actuated display systems suitable for use as security markers, for example to incorporate into bank notes. The devices can be made very thin and flexible, yet are robust enough to endure the harsh conditions of paper currency in general circulation. Because the displays are gravity actuated, they do not require a power source or circuitry. The gravity-actuated displays can be fabricated using microembossing or photolithography and can be filled and sealed using roll-to-roll techniques. The microcells can also be patterned to provide custom designs, such as official seals.

Abstract: A sensor may include a deformable sensing element having a deformable conductor arranged to deform in response to deformation of the sensing element, wherein the deformation of the sensing element is selectively controlled. The sensing element may be selectively controlled by a restraining element. The restraining element may control the deformation of the sensing element by distributing forces applied to the sensing element. The sensing element may include a deformable body with the deformable conductor arranged to respond to elongation of the deformable body. The deformable conductor may include a conductive gel. A sensor may include a deformable body, a deformable conductor arranged to deform in response to deformation of the deformable body, and a restraining element arranged to selectively control the deformation of the deformable body.

Abstract: In a particular embodiment, a force sensor apparatus is disclosed that includes a sensor housing and a sensing assembly. In this particular embodiment, the sensing assembly includes a force-compliant element having a center portion and an outer portion; one or more sensing elements coupled to the center portion of the force-compliant element; and a flexible spring element having an outer diameter and a center portion. According to at least one embodiment of the present disclosure, the flexible spring element curves from the outer diameter to the center portion of the flexible spring element and the center portion of the flexible spring element is aligned with the center portion of the force-compliant element. In this embodiment, the outer diameter is separated from a ledge of the outer portion of the force-compliant element by a space.

Disclosed he systems further includes an integral fluid flow path that continuously extends from the first end to the second end of the balance, wherein the integral fluid flow path is positioned in an interior core of the balance and is routed through the axial strain measurement component of the internal balance. The integral fluid flow path also comprises one or more turns as the integral fluid flow path is routed through the axial strain measurement component of the internal balance.
