Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling optical feedback in an optical system. A resonant optical cavity includes at least two cavity mirrors, one of which is a cavity coupling mirror, and has a plurality of optical resonance cavity modes. A radiation source emits a beam of continuous wave radiation and is capable of being scanned whereby a mean optical frequency of the continuous wave radiation beam is adjustable over a range of frequencies, wherein the radiation source is responsive to optical feedback radiation emerging from the cavity, and wherein the mode matching optics couples the beam of continuous wave radiation to the cavity via the cavity coupling mirror. The radiation source and the mode matching optics are aligned so that a mode fill ratio is reduced relative to a maximum mode fill ratio, wherein the laser beam is coupled with a fundamental cavity mode.

Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a connector for coupling a cable comprising at least one optical fiber and at least one electrical wire to an optical module at a network communications device, the connector comprising an electrical contact plate for engagement with an electrical contact on the optical module, and a ferrule for receiving the at least one optical fiber. The electrical contact plate is configured for electrically coupling the at least one electrical wire to the electrical contact on the optical module for delivery of power through the optical module.

Abstract: Systems and methods for characterizing biological specimens, which may involve identifying a cell type or state corresponding to a disease or health condition of a subject. A biological specimen is subjected to electromagnetic radiation for spectroscopic analysis such as Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) to determine the relative abundance of proteins or amino acids in the cells, which is used in a comparison to previously stored relative abundance data of a database to automatically identifies at least one of cell type and/or cell state of the cells (or the disease/health state of the subject with the disease state including the possibility of virus infection, or drug susceptibility of a subject to bacteria or fungus). The method may also be employed with biological entities or cellular structures such as exosomes and even protein or nucleic acid fragments to determine disease states or health states of the subject.

Abstract: Refractory anchoring devices include a main body and a mounting feature for mounting to a thermal vessel. Abstract: A Brillouin modality can be supplemented by an auxiliary modality, such as an optical imaging modality or a spectroscopy modality. In some embodiments, the auxiliary modality can be used to guide the Brillouin measurement to a desired region of interest, so that acquisition times for the Brillouin measurement can be reduced as compared to interrogating the entire sample. The auxiliary modality may have an acquisition speed faster than that of the Brillouin modality. In some embodiment, the auxiliary modality determines a composition of materials within a voxel in the sample interrogated by the Brillouin modality. Using the information provided by the auxiliary modality, the Brillouin signatures corresponding to the materials within the voxel can be unmixed, thereby providing a more accurate measurement of the sample.

The processing circuitry is further configured to initiate sampling at least some rows of the plurality of rows of optical sensors using different time stamps.
