    Abstract: In accordance with the method of the present invention, dried grated Parmesan cheese particles are manufactured from milk. The fat level of the milk is standardized to about 2.0 percent. The milk is subjected to membrane processing by ultrafiltration and diafiltration to provide a retentate. The retentate is then fermented with a combination of lactic acid cultures, a flavor culture, and a lipase enzyme. The fermentation is carried out at a temperature between about 90 and about 120° F. The fermented retentate is then evaporated to a solids level desired in the finished dry grated Parmesan cheese, which is generally in the range of from about 18 to about 24 percent moisture. A clotting agent is added to the fermented retentate immediately before the initiation of the evaporation step. Evaporation is preferably carried out in a drum drier under quiescent conditions. The Parmesan cheese is removed from the drum drier and is transferred to a disintegrator, such as a Fitz mill, to provide a grated Parmesan cheese product. The grated Parmesan cheese may be then blended with an anticaking material and an antimycotic material prior to packaging for consumer use without further aging or curing.

    Abstract: A safety lock for a centrifuge prevents the opening of the rotor housing if the rotor is in operation and conversely prevents the rotor from being operated if the rotor housing is not latched and locked. A plunger linked to a cam follower is used to lock a door latch and to sense its latched or unlatched condition. The position of the cam follower and hence of the plunger is sensed by plural switches. The cam follower is biased by a spring to normally urge the plunger into a locking position with the latch. A drive cam, actuated under the control of the plural switches, withdraws the plunger to unlock the latch and releases the cam follower to permit the plunger to snap into a locking position.

    Abstract: A fuel state control unit for use with internal combustion engines can include a primary heating chamber, a secondary heating chamber, and an expansion chamber. The primary heating chamber has a fuel conduit through which fuel is conveyed. A heater in the primary heating chamber transmits heat to the conveyed fuel in the primary heating chamber. The heater is controlled to maintain a predetermined temperature of the fuel. The heated fuel from the conduit is conveyed into a secondary heating chamber. A pressure plate separates the secondary heating chamber from the expansion chamber. The ports of the pressure plate can regulate the flow of the fuel into the expansion chamber. The heated fuel in the expansion chamber can then be conveyed to an engine so as to increase engine efficiency and reduce the amount of pollutant gases in the engine exhaust.
