Abstract:
A molding composition is described and comprises a mixture of interpenetrating polymers. A first phase comprises a crosslinked isobutene polymer, and a second phase encompasses a reinforcing polymer comprising (meth)acrylic and/or vinylaromatic units. The first phase is the reaction product of an isobutene polymer having an average of at least 1.4 functional groups in the molecule and of a crosslinking agent having an average of at least two functional groups in the molecule, the functionality of these being complementary to that of the functional groups of the isobutene polymer. The molding composition is particularly suitable for the roofing of buildings, or as impact-modified polystyrene or polymethyl methacrylate.
Abstract:
A process is described for functionalizing isobutene polymers having terminal olefinic unsaturation by treating with the reaction product of a borane source with from 0.5 to 1.8 equivalents of an alkene having a molecular weight of less than 250 per mole of borane or by treating the isobutene polymer with the borane source in the presence of the alkene. The reaction mixtures retain low viscosity and good stirrability.
Abstract:
Linear or star block copolymers which have at least one polymer block A which is essentially composed of isobutene units and at least two polymer blocks B which are essentially composed of units which are derived from vinylaromatic monomers are used as resilient sealing material. In particular, such sealing materials are used for sealing the edge joints in insulation glass panes, and insulation glass panes have a flexible edge joint seal which contains one of the block copolymers.
Abstract:

Abstract:
Decene oligomers useful with or without hydrogenation as basis for synthetic lubricating oils are prepared by oligomerizing decene-1 in the presence of an alkylaluminum chloride catalyst and an alkyl halide cocatalyst, in a first reaction stage the decene-1 being mixed with the catalyst at from 0 to +25.degree. C. and being kept in contact therewith within the same temperature range for not less than 15 minutes and in a second reaction stage the cocatalyst being added at from 0 to +35.degree. C. in the course of a period of from 15 to 180 minutes.
Abstract:
A recording system for recording signals on a magnetic tape uses a recording apparatus and cassettes, each cassette containing a specific length of magnetic tape, and has a timer for setting time-preprogrammed automatic recordings.A detection unit determines the maximum time available for recording on a cassette placed in the apparatus and a comparator compares an output signal of the detection unit with a reference quantity which is a measure of the total time required for the preprogrammed automatic recording(s). When this required time exceeds the maximum time available for recording with this cassette, an alarm signal is produced. The cassette has marks which are sensed by the detection unit and which indicate the length of the magnetic tape in the cassette.
Abstract:
A process for producing an isobutene copolymer derivative by: (I) free-radically copolymerizing (a) 10-90 mol % of a monoethylenically unsaturated C4- to C12-dicarboxylic acid, anhydride, or ester, (b) 10-90 mol % of a high-reactivity isobutene polymer having Mn=110-250000 and obtained by polymerizing isobutene in the presence of an iron-halide-, aluminum trihalide-, or alkylaluminum halide-donor complex, each donor being an ether or carboxylic ester function, or in the presence of a Lewis acid complex containing an organic sulfonic acid, and (c) 0-50 mol % of a monoethylenically unsaturated compound copolymerizable with (a) and (b), to obtain an intermediate isobutene copolymer; and (II) reacting the carboxylic acid functions in the intermediate with at least one of ammonia, an amine, and an alcohol, to form a moiety containing at least one of a hydroxyl, carboxylic ester, amino, quaternized amino, amido, and imido group.
Abstract:
