Abstract:
The syntheses of the natural products, avrainvillamide and stephacidin B, are provided. The α,β-unsaturated nitrone functionality of avrainvillamide and its 3-alkylidene-3H-indole 1-oxide core is shown to covalently and reversibly bond to heteroatom-based nucleophiles. This capability may allow these molecules to bind active site nucleophiles and may provide the basis for designing potent and selective enzyme inhibitors. Both avrainvillamide and its dimer stephacidin B have been reported to exhibit antiproliferative activity, and avrainvillamide has been reported to exhibit antimicrobial activity against multi-drug resistant bacteria. Avrainvillamide has been found to target cytoskeleton-linking membrane protein (CLIMP-63) thereby preventing cells from undergoing mitosis. The invention provides syntheses of these natural products as well as analogs of these natural products and their functional cores. The compounds of the invention may be used in the treatment of diseases such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, and bacterial infection.
Abstract:
The present application discloses methods for the production of organic compounds comprising a linear series of five fused carbon rings. Such compounds are useful in the production of electronic components, devices and materials. For example the methods disclosed permit the production of 2,9- and 2,10-disubstituted pentacene compounds that present particularly advantageous properties for the manufacture of semiconductor materials, and may be used in devices such as for example thin film transistors and solar cells. Also disclosed are compounds that are excellent candidates for use in the manufacture of semiconductor materials, and other components of electronic systems, by virtue of their solubility, crystal packing geometries, and electronic properties.

A system is disclosed that provides a goal based learning system utilizing a rule based expert training system to provide a cognitive educational experience. The system provides the user with a simulated environment that presents a business opportunity to understand and solve optimally. Mistakes are noted and remedial educational material presented dynamically to build the necessary skills that a user requires for success in the business endeavor. The system utilizes an artificial intelligence engine driving individualized and dynamic feedback with synchronized video and graphics used to simulate real-world environment and interactions. A robust business model provides support for realistic activities and allows a user to experience real world consequences for their actions and decisions and entails realtime decision-making and synthesis of the educational material. The system is architectured around a table of components to manage and control the system.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for classifying targets within a container are provided. In one aspect, a method for resolving an alarm raised by an imaging system is provided, the imaging system alarm triggered by an alarm target including a plurality of objects. The method includes receiving a plurality of images from the imaging system, calculating at least one feature value for each object of the plurality of objects, determining whether each object is part of the alarm target, and rendering a decision on the alarm target.

Systems and methods for dynamically sizing, structuring and operating advertisements that include a variety of content, including interaction prompts and other elements, which enable an engagement-based revenue generation model. According to one embodiment, a computer implemented method comprises storing advertising content, serving an XML file from an advertising server to an advertisement manager in order to control a player on a user computer, dynamically generating the advertisement through the player based on directions from the advertisement manager and the stored content, and tracking and reporting a user's engagement with the advertisement in order to determine compensation for the publisher.
Abstract:
An engine drive electric generator apparatus converts the reciprocating movements of a pushrod of an internal combustion engine to electricity. Each generator apparatus has an electric coil surrounding a combustion engine pushrod, and a magnet on the pushrod that reciprocates with the pushrod through the coil. The relative reciprocating movement between the magnet and coil generates an electric current in the coil that is communicated with a battery of the vehicle to charge the battery.
Abstract:
A visual interactive multi-criteria decision-making method and computer-based apparatus for portfolio management. The method/apparatus supports partitioning of a portfolio of physical or other assets into two mutually exclusive categories, such as assets recommended for sale and assets recommended for retention. The method/apparatus utilizes one or more coupled 2-D projections of the portfolio in criteria space. The user interacts with the projections to express and record preferences.

Abstract:
Polymeric chelating agents and metal chelates, particularly those of lanthanide metals and more specifically those of Gd(III), useful as contrast agents in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for therapeutic and diagnostic applications as well as clinical and biomedical research applications. The polymeric chelates are generated using ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP). Polymers can have multiple sites for functionalization allowing for the synthesis of multimodal and targeted contrast agents. Hydroxypyridonate (HOPO)-based chelating moieties are integrated into a ROMP-derived polymer. More specifically, the HOPO-based chelating moiety is integrated into a benzonorbornadiene unit that constitutes the backbone of the polymer. The ROMP-derived polymer chelators can comprise multiple metal ions, particularly Gd(III) ions, in polymers of varying lengths to provide a series of agents with controlled relaxivites. Polymer chelates include those that are water-soluble.
