Abstract: A coated barrier fabric for use in a reusable medical product (e.g., surgical gown, surgical drape, etc.) is provided and has two woven or knitted plies. Each of the two plies are coated on one side with a non-fluorine containing polymer and retain similar comfort and feel of uncoated woven or knitted fabrics. The coated sides of the plies face each other (i.e., inwardly) in the interior of the barrier fabric. Because of the orientation of the plies, the coated sides of the plies can come into direct contact with and move freely against each other within the interior of the barrier fabric. The coating on each of the plies is protected from exterior and environmental factors, including repeated institutional laundering/autoclave cycles, that could abrade and degrade the coating. Thus, the useful life of the reusable medical product including the barrier fabric is extended.

Abstract: A personal protective equipment (PPE) rear opening isolation gown is provided that can be used by workers in the healthcare industry. The isolation gown is reusable and can provide for ease of doffing, such as in a pull forward manner that is consistent with how current users of disposable isolation gowns are accustomed to removing such gowns, without substantial risk of damaging (e.g., tearing) the gown and without substantial risk of the transfer of potentially harmful microorganisms, body fluids, and/or particulate material, to the neck or hair on the head or neck of a wearer. The reusable, rear opening isolation gown is provided with an easy release fastener(s) that provides a safe and secure hold when fastened but permits the gown to be removed easily, quickly, and more safely than other reusable options.

Abstract: A central access duvet cover system includes a cover assembly, defined by first and second fabric layers with a pocket defined between the layers, and which is configured to receive a separate fill layer, defined by a blanket or comforter. The first fabric layer includes first and second portions with an opening formed therebetween such that the fill layer can be inserted into and taken out of the pocket. The opening may be generally centrally located on the first fabric layer while extending over a majority of the width of the cover assembly. The system hides the appearance of the fill layer when in use, thereby providing a similar appearance to a conventional duvet cover, while still being easy to assemble and disassemble.

Abstract: A simulated duvet cover system provides an easily-assembled multi-layer construction in which first and second cover layers formed by fabric sheets are removably coupled to an intermediate layer defined by a blanket or comforter and sandwiched between the cover layers. Each of the first and second cover layers is separately coupled to the intermediate layer using respective first and second fastening elements, which may include snaps, hook and loop fasteners, magnets, and the like. The coupling may be limited to being at the corner portions and along one of four side/end edges of the layers to promote quick and easy removal of the cover layers when those require cleaning. The cover layers are sized such that portions of these cover layers overlie or cover up the fastening elements when the cover system is assembled on a bed, thereby providing a similar appearance to a conventional duvet cover.

Abstract: Methods and test kits are provided for assessing effectiveness of an individual's hand cleansing technique. One method includes donning a glove on one hand and another glove on the other, which then are engaged for a desired period of time. The gloves are removed and the hands cleansed. Thereafter, a third glove is donned on one hand and a fourth glove on the other, which again are engaged. Alternatively or additionally, at least one fingertip on one hand optionally can be swabbed with a swab device to collect a sample from the fingertip, then the hands cleansed. At least one cleansed fingertip can be swabbed with a swab device to collect a sample. The gloves and/or test swab(s) can be sent to a lab and tested for a microbe presence to assesses effectiveness of an individual's hand cleansing technique. Kits can be provided to aid in carrying out said methods.

Abstract: A simulated platform bed system is used with a bed having a mattress and a mattress support, typically provided as a box spring and frame supporting the mattress by a spacing above a floor surface. The system includes an exterior aspect with a decorative feature, as well as a base typically defining a single, continuous piece extending along the side edges and the foot end edge of the bed. At least a portion of the base is made of a plurality of vertically-oriented slats connected together. The slats may be located at corner portions or along an entire length of the system. The system covers the spacing to create the appearance of a platform bed upon which the mattress appears to be supported, even though the weight support of the mattress is through the mattress support rather than the system.

Abstract: A duvet cover system includes a cover assembly, defined by first and second fabric layers with a pocket defined between the layers, and which is configured to receive a separate fill layer, defined by a blanket or comforter. One of the fabric layers and the fill layer include fastening elements that engage one another to secure the fill layer in position within the cover assembly, and at least some of these fastening elements are color-coded to identify the size of the bed for which the system is to cover. As such, a plurality of different size cover assemblies can be easily sorted for pairing with proper corresponding sizes of fill layers based on the easy size identification provided by the color-coded fastening elements.

Abstract: A central access duvet cover system includes a cover assembly, defined by top and bottom fabric layers with a pocket defined between the layers, and which is configured to receive a separate fill layer, defined by a blanket or comforter. The bottom fabric layer includes first and second portions with an opening formed therebetween such that the fill layer can be inserted into and taken out of the pocket. The opening may be generally centrally located on the bottom fabric layer while extending over a majority of the width of the cover assembly. Furthermore, the bottom fabric layer may include retention slots at corner portions thereof, configured to receive fastening elements such as fabric knot buttons provided on the fill layer. The system hides the appearance of the fill layer when in use, thereby providing a similar appearance to a conventional duvet cover, while still being easy to assemble and disassemble.
