Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for determining dryness of produce using image data. A method can include receiving, by a computing system and from an imaging device, image data of a batch of produce, performing, by the computing system, object detection to identify each produce in a frame of the image data, extracting, by the computing system, temperature values in pixels of the identified produce in the frame, and determining, by the computing system, distribution characteristics of the extracted temperature values. The method can also include predicting, by the computing system, a dryness metric for the batch of produce based on applying a trained model to the determined distribution characteristics. The model can be trained using temperature distributions of other produce, the temperature distributions being annotated based on previous mappings of skewness of the temperature distributions to dryness.

Abstract: A system includes a memory and at least one processor to acquire a hyperspectral image of a food object by an imaging device, the hyperspectral image of the food object comprising a three-dimensional set of images of the food object, each image in the set of images representing the food object in a wavelength range of the electromagnetic spectrum, normalize the hyperspectral image of the food object, select a region of interest in the hyperspectral image, the region of interest comprising a subset of at least one image in the set of images, extract spectral features from the region of interest in the hyperspectral image, and compare the spectral features from the region of interest with a plurality of images in a training set to determine particular characteristics of the food object and determine that the hyperspectral image indicates a foreign object.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for identifying pre-harvest latent infection in plants. In one aspect, a method can include operations of obtaining data describing a level of expression of one or more infection biomarkers present in a plant, encoding the obtained data into a data structure for input to a machine learning model, providing, by the one or more computers, encoded data structure as in input to the machine learning model that has been trained to generate output data indicating a likelihood that the plant has a latent infection based on processing the encoded data structure, obtaining the generated output data indicating a likelihood that the plant has a latent infection, determining based on the generated output data, that the plant has a latent infection, and performing one or more operations to mitigate the latent infection in the plant.

Abstract: Described herein are industrial application systems for treating (e.g., forming protective coatings on) produce, agricultural products, or other items. An exemplary application system can include a bed comprising a plurality of rollers, one or more sprayers over a first portion of the bed, one or more blowers over a second portion of the bed, a mixing system configured to prepare a mixture comprising a coating agent in a solvent, and a liquid delivery system connected inline between the mixing system and the one or more sprayers. Items placed on the bed can have the mixture applied to their surfaces via the one or more sprayers, after which the one or more blowers can at least partially remove the solvent from the surfaces of the perishable items, thereby causing the protective coatings to be formed over the perishable items.
