Abstract:
A lightweight radio/CD player for vehicular application is virtually “fastenerless” and includes a case and frontal interface formed of polymer based material that is molded to provide details to accept audio devices such as playback mechanisms (if desired) and radio receivers, as well as the circuit boards required for electrical control and display. The case and frontal interface are of composite structure, including an insert molded electrically conductive wire mesh screen that has been pre-formed to contour with the molding operation. The wire mesh provides EMC, RFI, BCI and ESD shielding and grounding of the circuit boards via exposed wire mesh pads and adjacent ground clips. The PCB architecture is bifurcated into a first board carrying common circuit components in a surface mount configuration suitable for high volume production, and a second board carrying application specific circuit components in a wave soldered stick mount configuration. The major components and subassemblies are self-fixturing during the final assembly process, eliminating the need for dedicated tools, fixtures and assembly equipment. The major components and subassemblies self-interconnect by integral guide and connection features effecting “slide lock” and “snap lock” self-interconnection. The radio architecture includes improved push buttons employing 4-bar living hinge linkage and front loaded decorative trim buttons.
Abstract:
A conductive elastomeric shielding device (400) for use with an electronic device includes a raised surface (401) and a sidewall (405) formed with the raised surface (401). A turret section (406) is formed with the sidewall (405) where an engagement member (407) projects from the turret section (406) for frictional engagement with an aperture (408) in a printed circuit (PC) board (410). The raised surface and sidewall are manufactured of an elastomeric shielding material for shielding radio frequency (RF) radiation for electronic components used therewith.

Abstract:
A surface mount interconnection system provides a method and apparatus for mounting an auxiliary printed circuit board assembly directly to a main printed circuit board assembly without the use of leaded surface mount devices. A linear array of spaced-apart solder pads is arranged on an exposed surface of the substrate of both assemblies, with at least one of solder pad arrays being located adjacent an edge of its associated substrate. A selected plurality of aligned cooperating pairs of solder pads are electrically and mechanically interconnected by a solder ball reflowed to form a joint there between. The solder balls comprise a high melting temperature inner core and a low melting temperature outer solder core.

Abstract:
An holder or support for a backlit component is disclosed which provides display lighting for the backlit component. The holder may be a one-piece holder and may be made from a polymeric material including one or more fluorescing materials and/or diffusing substances. A trim plate for a backlit display is disclosed. The trim plate may have a front face which provides both a solid support for graphic indicia and display lighting for the graphic indicia.
Abstract:
A button assembly comprising a panel having a hole and a button configured to extend through the hole. The assembly further includes an integral switch pad and gasket member, with the switch pad having a base and a flexible dome including a contact extending from the base. The gasket member is integrally connected to the switch pad at a transition line and includes an opening. The button is configured to be placed through the hole in the panel and the gasket member is configured to be repositioned relative to the switch pad along the transition line such that the opening in the gasket member is aligned with the hole in the panel and the button engages the gasket member. The flexible dome of the switch pad is configured to be aligned with the hole in the panel such that depression of the button collapses the dome of the switch pad.
Abstract:
An automotive climate control for a motor vehicle includes a printed circuit board (PCB), a flexible conductive switch pad and a temperature sensor. The flexible conductive switch pad includes a structure that is formed in conjunction with the flexible conductive switch pad. A switch dome of the flexible conductive switch pad is shaped to make electrical contact with switch contacts formed on the PCB responsive to activation of the switch dome. A portion of the structure includes a thermally conductive elastomer and the temperature sensor is positioned within the structure and electrically coupled to sensor contacts on the PCB.
