    Abstract: An ozone supply module for supplying ozonated water to an appliance that typically includes: an appliance module housing having a water inlet; a water outlet; and an electrical connection for receiving electrical power; a proton exchange membrane cell positioned within the housing; and a water conveying system within the module housing and operably connected to both the water inlet and water outlet. The water conveying system is typically configured to allow water to flow through the deionizing resin and into contact with the proton exchange membrane cell. The module and the proton exchange membrane cell receive electrical power from a home appliance when the module is operably connected to the appliance. The module produces water that contains (dissolved) ozone to be delivered to a chamber within the appliance when the module is in the engaged position with the appliance. The appliance is typically a residential appliance.

    Abstract: The invention relates to methods and compositions for reducing the growth of microorganisms and other contaminants of water processing and holding systems. Rapid reduction in the growth of fungi, algae, spores, molds, bacteria, protozoa and/or other contaminating microorganisms found in water processing and holding equipment is achieved by placing a material comprising an antimicrobial composition, preferably one containing a metal oxide and a binder, in an area of such equipment where there is water movement or storage, thereby destroying contaminating water-borne or air borne microorganisms in the water and on the surfaces of the equipment in contact with the water.

    Abstract: A filter basket and filtration media for an inverted bottle type water dispenser which is disposed below the inverted bottle, depending from the collar of the water reservoir into the water reservoir and receiving the neck of the bottle, so that all the water discharged from the bottle passes through the filter basket in a downward direction. The filter basket has an inverted conical upper section which funnels all the water which is drained from the bottle to a filtration compartment at its lower section. The filtration compartment remains submerged in water. The filtration compartment contains the filtration media and discharges the filtered water therefrom directly into the water reservoir. Air released in the spigot when it is opened rises upwardly through the filtration media to be received in the bottle. The filtration media comprises an aluminosilicate gel with pore sizes in the range of sixty to two hundred and fifty Angstroms which provides for rapid flow of water and air therethrough. Other filtration media may be used in combination, such as activated carbon. The filter basket and filtration media is composed entirely from microwave-safe material for sterilization in a conventional microwave oven.

    Abstract: Thiosulfate in anhydrous form is added in minute quantities to beverages such as soft drinks, coffee and tea, or food mixes wherein tap water is added in quantities not greater than about two quarts and preferably not greater than about one quart, to neutralize or destroy chlorines or chloramines in the water, such neutralization or destruction taking place almost instantaneously and, in any event, in a length of time not greater than about twenty seconds or, for most beverages, not greater than about three seconds, depending upon the pH of the beverage or food. The thiosulfate may be added directly to the beverage or to the water by metering apparatus or may have been previously applied in metered quantities to filters for the beverages including tea bags or may be mixed with syrup, powder mix, instant coffees or teas, coffee grounds or tea leaves, or may be encapsulated with a food grade material which is readily dissolvable in water. Because of the rapid reaction of the thiosulfate with the chlorines and the chloramines, the neutralization or destruction of same is essentially complete before a person commences to consume the food or beverage. The thiosulfate may be applied in pellet form to beverages or applied to articles which are inserted into beverages or food or which receive same such as filters, tea bags, cups, stirrers, straws, and the like.
