Abstract: The invention is directed to long lasting crosslinked water-soluble swellable polymers, methods for making same, and their uses. More particularly, the invention relates to a composition comprising expandable polymeric particles having cationic sites as well as labile crosslinkers and stable crosslinkers, said particle mixed with a fluid. A particularly important use is as an injection fluid in petroleum production, where the expandable polymeric particles are injected into a target zones in the reservoirs and when the heat and/or a suitable pH in the reservoir cause degradation of the labile crosslinker and when the particle expands, the cationic sites in the polymer adsorb to negative sites of the rock in the formation, thus diverting water to lower permeability regions and improving oil recovery. However, many other uses are possible.

Abstract: A focus enhancing method for a portrait in a digital image is applied to an electronic device capable of receiving or reading a digital image and executing a focus enhancing process with respect to a portrait in the digital image, wherein the focus enhancing process includes a foreground definition procedure for defining a head region and a body region of the portrait as a foreground of the digital image, a foreground and background segmentation procedure for cutting away an image other than the foreground from the digital image and defining the result as a background of the digital image, and a foreground and background blending procedure for blurring the background, feathering a transition region coupled to the foreground and the background, and blending the foreground, the transition region and the background to form a new digital image with a prominent portrait.

Abstract: A method for image separating, said method being applied to an electronic apparatus to separate a foreground and a background of an image displayed on said apparatus, comprising the steps of scanning pixels in said image, applying arithmetic algorithm on said pixels and forming a plurality of segments on said image by defining pixels adjacent to each other and similar in color as one segment; examining foreground label and background label marked by an user; merging segments labeled by said foreground label into a foreground region and segments labeled by said background label into a background region, and applying arithmetic algorithm on an unlabeled segment to merge with an adjacent segment, foreground region or background region having the least difference in color; repeating said merging step until all segments are merged into a foreground region or a background region, thereby separating said image into a foreground region and a background region.

Abstract: A portable electronic device is provided including a shell having a front, a back, a right side, a left side, a top, and a bottom having insufficient cross-sectional area to adequately support the shell, a pair of legs having an upper end mounted to the back and a lower end to provide support to allow the shell to be freestanding. An elongated slot is provided on the back of the shell adjacent each of the sides. The slot is capable of receiving each of the legs. An axle and a spring encircling the axle are fixedly attached to the right and left sides of the shell. The upper end of each of the legs is pivotally mounted on each axle placing the spring in a sustained position. A control button is operably connected to a leg lock device mounted within the shell. This enables the user to be able to unlock each of the legs from a stored position within the slots in the back to an extended position at a fixed angle away from the shell under the action of the spring. A gear on an upper end of each leg is engaged with a gear bracket in the shell and allows for a slower movement when control button is pushed causing the legs to rotate out. The leg lock device also retains the legs within the respective slots in the closed position.
