Abstract: A process and an installation for producing a drip irrigation conduit having discrete internally located emitter units bonded at axially spaced apart locations of an internal surface thereof, wherein the irrigation conduit is continuously extruded from an extrusion cross head at a first outer diameter and a first linear velocity and is drawn off through a calibrator unit to a second and lesser outer diameter at a second and greater linear velocity greater than the first linear velocity, the emitter units being continuously supplied on a carrier member which extends from within the extruder cross-head to the region of an inlet of the calibrator unit. While so supported the emitter units are accelerated so as to attain an emitter unit linear velocity substantially equal to said second linear velocity and are displaced at this velocity into contact with the extruded conduit where the latter has substantially attained its second linear velocity and therefore continue to be displaced while still supported in contact with the extruded conduit until the emitter unit is heat welded.

Abstract: An emitter unit having an elongated flowduct. The flowduct comprises a central elongated control duct of substantially rectangular cross-sectional shape having a width a and two sets of successive like flow pockets located respectively on either side of the control duct and opening into the control duct. Each flow pocket of the sets is defined between a pair of adjacent side walls of a pair of successive baffles of a corresponding set of baffles. Each baffle has baffle side walls which terminate in a baffle edge of width c and of height b, the baffles of one set being respectively directed substantially towards the mid-points of the inter-baffle regions of the opposite set. The baffle edges of each set of baffles are substantially aligned and define one pair of opposite longitudinal sides of the control duct, the other pair of longitudinal sides of the control duct being defined by first and second opposite control duct walls. The aligned edges of one set of baffles are substantially parallel to the aligned edges of the opposite set of baffles. Abstract: An irrigation emitter unit comprises an elongated body member having formed in a first surface thereof an elongated groove formed with a pair of oppositely directed flow resisting substantially triangular baffles, the groove having an inlet end and an outlet end, there being furthermore formed in the first surface a recessed cavity of elongated shape and being of extended dimensions as compared to the width of the groove, the outlet end of said groove communicating with the cavity so that the groove extends out of the cavity and is located on one side thereof, there being formed in the base of the cavity an outlet aperture extending to a second and opposite surface of the body member and having a rim area substantially less than that of the recessed cavity, a resiliently flexible membrane of substantially elongated shape juxtaposed with respect to the surface so as to be pressed sealingly thereagainst solely under the influence of fluid pressure and so as to define, with said groove, an elongated flow reducing flowpath; with the groove inlet a flowpath inlet; and with the cavity an outlet control chamber and communication being effected between an irrigation supply and said flowpath inlet and so as to allow for the exertion of the fluid pressure on the membrane; the arrangement being such that upon the fluid pressure acting on the membrane exceeding the fluid pressure in the outlet chamber by a predetermined amount, the membrane flexes elastically towards the outlet aperture so as to define, with a rim of the outlet aperture, a restricted outflow path thereby limiting variations in the outflow rate.
