Abstract: A display device with less light leakage and excellent contrast is provided. A display device having a high aperture ratio and including a large-capacitance capacitor is provided. A display device in which wiring delay due to parasitic capacitance is reduced is provided. A display device includes a transistor over a substrate, a pixel electrode connected to the transistor, a signal line electrically connected to the transistor, a scan line electrically connected to the transistor and intersecting with the signal line, and a common electrode overlapping with the pixel electrode and the signal line with an insulating film provided therebetween. The common electrode includes stripe regions extending in a direction intersecting with the signal line.

Abstract: To provide a display device with excellent display quality, in a display device including a signal line, a scan line, a transistor, a pixel electrode, and a common electrode in a pixel, the common electrode is included in which an extending direction of a region overlapping with the signal line differs from an extending direction of a region overlapping with the pixel electrode in a planar shape and the extending directions intersect with each other between the signal line and the pixel electrode. Thus, a change in transmittance of the pixel can be suppressed; accordingly, flickers can be reduced.

Abstract: A display device that is suitable for high definition and a method for manufacturing thereof are provided. The display device includes a reflective liquid crystal element. A liquid crystal layer has a first portion overlapping with a reflective electrode that reflects visible light and blocks ultraviolet light, and a second portion overlapping with a region between two adjacent reflective electrodes. The first portion contains a monomer and liquid crystal and the second portion contains a polymer obtained by polymerization of the monomer. In the second portion, the polymer constitutes the framework of a columnar partition wall which bonds a pair of substrates to each other. The partition wall can be formed in a self-aligned manner by using the reflective electrode as a light-blocking mask at the irradiation with light. The polymer is positioned to fit a depression portion of an insulating layer over which the reflective electrode is provided.

Abstract: A high-definition liquid crystal display device is provided. A liquid crystal display device with a high aperture ratio is provided. A liquid crystal display device with a high contrast ratio and display quality is provided. A liquid crystal display device capable of being driven at a low voltage is provided. The display device includes, between a pair of substrates, a pixel electrode, a first common electrode, a second common electrode, and a liquid crystal layer. The pixel electrode and the first common electrode are positioned between the liquid crystal layer and one of the substrates. The second common electrode is positioned between the liquid crystal layer and the other substrate. The same potential is supplied to the first common electrode and the second common electrode. The first common electrode includes a portion overlapping with the second common electrode between the display regions of two adjacent subpixels that exhibit different colors. At least one of the pixel electrode and the first common electrode includes a portion that does not overlap with the second common electrode in the display region of the subpixel.

A display device includes a liquid crystal element, a transistor, and an insulating layer. The transistor includes a semiconductor layer that transmits visible light. The semiconductor layer that transmits visible light includes a channel region and a low-resistance region. The channel region overlaps with a gate with a gate insulating layer therebetween. The low-resistance region includes a first portion that is in contact with a pixel electrode of the liquid crystal element and a second portion that is in contact with a side surface of an opening in the insulating layer.
