Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide for advanced trip planning for an autonomous vehicle service. For instance, an example method may include determining a potential pickup location for a user, determining a set of potential destination locations for a user, and determining a set of potential trips. For each potential trip a vehicle of a fleet of autonomous vehicles of the service may be assigned and trip information, including an estimated time of arrival for the assigned vehicle of the potential trip to reach the destination location of the potential trip, may be determined. The trip information for each potential trip may be provided for display to the user. Thereafter, confirmation information identifying one of the set of potential trips may be received, and the assigned vehicle for one first of the set of potential trips may be dispatched to pick up the user.

Abstract: The disclosure relates collecting feedback from passengers of autonomous vehicles. For instance, that a triggering circumstance for triggering a feedback request has been met may be determined. The triggering circumstance may include a driving event, a presence of other road users, or a trip state. A display requirement and data collection parameters for the feedback request are identified based on the determination. The display requirement defines when the feedback request is displayed and the data collection parameters identify information that the feedback request is to collect. The feedback request is provided for display based on the display requirement and data collection parameters. In response, feedback from a passenger of the autonomous vehicle is received and stored for later use.

Abstract: A method for controlling an autonomous vehicle includes using one or more computing devices to transmit a request for a trip. The trip is from a pickup location to a destination location. The method also includes determining the autonomous vehicle for the trip is within a predetermined distance from the pickup location, providing a set of component controls to receive user input at a user interface after the determining. The set of component controls includes interactive controls for identifying or accessing the autonomous vehicle. A first user input is received at the user interface for one or more of the set of component controls, and control instructions for the autonomous vehicle based on the first user input are transmitted.
