Abstract:
A froth flotation process for the beneficiation of fine coal is disclosed which employs as a collector a water-dispersible polyorganosiloxane or a mixture of water-dispersible polyorganosiloxanes which contain organic radicals selected from the group consisting of polyethylene oxide and polypropylene oxide radicals. The process of this invention is especially useful for the beneficiation of difficult-to-float fine coals.

Disclosed is an improved process wherein coal particles are beneficiated by froth flotation under coal froth flotation conditions to separate the desired coal particles from remaining unwanted ash and like gangue material. The improvement of the present invention comprises conducting the froth flotation in the presence of an ester-alcohol frothing agent. The preferred ester-alcohol frothing agents are reaction products of C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 mono-basic carboxylic acids and diols wherein the total number of carbon atoms range from about 6-19 and monocarboxylic acid esters of polyoxyalkylene glycols which can contain up to 25-30 carbon atoms.

An improved method in concentration of zirconium ores and minerals by froth flotation process which comprises subjecting a sufficiently fine sized ore of zirconium metal in the presence of phenethylglycolic acid or its sodium salt; or the like alkyl substituted phenylglycolic acid; the indicated compound provide selectivity and recovery of zirconium minerals over silica and silicate gangue.

Flotation of fly ash to recover coal contained therein is carried out in at least two steps, pH of the flotation slurry in the first step being 6-8, and in the last step lower than in the first step and below 6.5, preferably in the range of 3-5. The temperature may be ambient but is preferably 30.degree.-60.degree. C. As collector and frother several of those commonly employed are usable, preferably gas oil and pine oil, respectively. Desired pH is preferably achieved by sulphuric acid if desired in part by acidic flue gases. There is obtained separation into an almost carbon-free ash fraction and a carbonaceous fraction of low ash content.

This invention relates to froth flotation of coal.According to the invention a predominantly paraffinic residual oil having a cut point of at least 190.degree. C. at atmospheric pressure is used as a "collector" for the froth flotation of minerals. A preferred oil is a coal spray oil used in coke oven technology. The "collector" is for use with a "frother" such as a polyglycol ether.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for treating dore slag resulting from smelting of a dore furnace charge, by grinding such slag and then subjecting the obtained pulp to froth flotation in the presence of a suitable frother and collector to produce a precious metals concentrate which is then filtered and returned to the dore furnace with the next charge. The tails from the froth flotation may then be finely ground and subjected to several additional flotation stages to improve recovery of the precious metals, and the entire operation is preferably carried out as a closed loop process so that only the tailings from the rougher flotation are removed and shipped to the smelter.

Employment of a latex emulsion prepared from a hydrocarbon, animal or vegetable based oil with a hydrophobic water-in-oil emulsifier and a hydrophilic surfactant in the froth flotation of coal improves coal recovery without increasing the ash content. The emulsifier employed should have an HLB value of 5.0 or less while the surfactant should have an HLB value of 9.0 or higher.

A conditioning agent comprising a frother and a bis(alkyl)ester of a sulfosuccinic acid salt provides high coal recovery with reduced ash content.
