    Abstract: A process is provided for separation of at least one metal sulfide from a mixed sulfide concentrate. The process may comprise: subjecting the mixed sulfide concentrate to flotation in which at least one sulfide comprising antimony, arsenic and a first metal is floated and at least one sulfide comprising a second metal is depressed. The flotation yields a first metal concentrate having the at least one sulfide comprising antimony, arsenic and the first metal and a second metal concentrate having the at least one sulfide comprising the second metal. The first metal concentrate is leached to yield a further concentrate and a leach solution. The further concentrate comprises the first metal and the leach solution comprises soluble antimony and soluble arsenic. The process may further comprise oxidizing the leach solution to yield an antimony precipitate and an arsenic solution, and forming a stable arsenic compound from the arsenic solution.

    Abstract: Glycol ether compositions useful for metal recovery by froth flotation and processes for making the compositions are disclosed. In one process, dipropylene glycol methyl ether (DPM) is propoxylated to give a composition comprising 4 to 15 wt. % of DPM and at least 20 wt. % of tripropylene glycol methyl ether (TPM). In another process, the glycol ether composition is made from a distillation residue which comprises DPM, TPM, and a basic catalyst. Extraction of the residue with water to remove some of the basic catalyst is followed by propoxylated to give a composition which comprises less than 15 wt. % of DPM, at least 20 wt. % of TPM, and one or more PO-based glycols. In comparative froth tests, glycol ether compositions of the invention meet or exceed the performance of commercial frothers.

    Abstract: Methods and compositions for separating materials are provided. In an embodiment, the present invention provides a method of separating a first material from a second material. For example, the method can comprise mixing the first material and the second material in a slurry with a beneficiation composition. The beneficiation composition can comprise one or more fatty acid by-products derived from a biodiesel manufacturing process or derived from transesterification reactions involving triglycerides.     Abstract: An environmentally safe composition of matter for use as a promoter chemical in flotation separation of carbonates from industrial sand is disclosed. The promoter chemical replaces the standard petroleum sulfonate, glycol ether and nonphenol used in promoter chemicals with biodegradable substitutes permitting the waste from flotation separation to be disposed without fear of contamination of ground water. The biodegradable promoter is technically sound and causes little change to the flotation process.

    Abstract: A process for making an alkylene glycol ether composition is disclosed. In one aspect, the process comprises reacting propylene glycol methyl ether (PM) with from 1.5 to 3 equivalents of propylene oxide (PO). The resulting alkoxylation mixture is distilled to provide a composition comprising at least 30 wt. % of TPM and less than 20 wt. % of DPM. In another process of the invention, DPM reacts with from 0.5 to 1.5 equivalents of PO in similar fashion to make an analogous product. Also disclosed are alkylene glycol ether compositions made by the process of the invention and use of the compositions in a method for recovering metals from metallic ores by froth flotation.
