Abstract:
Thio-bis-(hydrocarbyl substituted diacid materials), such as thio-bis-(polyalkyl lactone acid) and/or their precursors, the adducts of sulfur chloride and unsaturated diacid materials, e.g., 4,8-bis-polyalkyl-4, 8-dichloro-6-thiaundecane-1,2,10,11-tetracarboxylic acid bis-anhydride and especially their dehydrochlorinated analogs, when treated with an amine preferably polyalkylene polyamines such as tetraethylene pentamine, directly or in the presence of a metal template reagent, yield aminated thio-bis-(alkyl lactone acid) and thio-bis-(hydrocarbyl diacid) materials or their metal complexes which can be characterized in part, as macrocyclic and/or macrocyclic-like amide and/or imide structures, are useful as stable additives in lubricating compositions, e.g., as varnish inhibiting dispersants and/or inhibitors for lubricating oils and fuels.
Abstract:
Disclosed are fuel compositions including alcohol-extended fuels containing friction-reducing, anti-corrosion and detergent amounts of at least one fuel soluble glycine derivative of the formula:RNHCH.sub.2 Xwherein R is a hydrocarbyl group having 6 to 18 carbons and X is ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is lower alkyl having 1 to 5 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 is alkylene having 1 to 5 carbon atoms; R.sub.3 is an alkylamino or alkylpolyamino group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
Specified copolymers of tert-butylstyrene are dissolved in a liquid aliphatic hydrocarbon fuel, especially an aircraft fuel, by the steps of (i) blending the finely-divided copolymer with a non-solvent hydroxylic liquid miscible with the fuel, (ii) mixing the blend into the fuel so as to give a copolymer concentration of 01.-1% by weight, and (iii) dissolving in the fuel so treated an amino compound in an amount of 0.01-0.6 mole per 100 g of copolymer present. The copolymers thus dissolved impart to the fuel a resistance towards mist formation when the fuel is subjected to conditions of shock.
Abstract:
Lactone oxazoline reaction products of hydrocarbon substituted lactone carboxylic acids, for example, polybutyl lactone carboxylic acid, with 2,2-disubstituted-2-amino-1-alkanols, such as tris-(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (THAM), and their derivatives are useful aditives in oleaginous compositions, such as sludge dispersants for lubricating oil, or anti-rust agents for gasoline.
Abstract:
Oil soluble oxazoline reaction products of hydrocarbon substituted dicarboxylic acid, ester, or anhydride, for example polyisobutenylsuccinic anhydride, with 2,2-disubstituted-2-amino-1-alkanols, such as tris-hydroxymethylaminomethane (THAM), are useful additives in oleaginous compositions, such as sludge dispersants for lubricating oil or gasoline.
