Abstract:
Lubricating compositions are provided which comprise a major amount of oil of lubricating viscosity and an effective amount of dichlorophenyl esters of hydrocarbyl dicarboxylic acids. The lubricating compositions have improved load-bearing properties. Also provided are novel dichlorophenyl esters of malonic and lower alkyl substituted malonic acid.
Abstract:
A long chain monocarboxylic acid is reacted with a trialkanolamine to produce an ester and this ester is then treated with sulfonic acid to produce a sulfonate to provide compounds which are suitable as ashless detergent additives and the method for producing these compounds are provided. In a preferred embodiment the ashless fuel detergent additives are combined with hydrocarbons suitable as fuel in an internal combustion engine to provide ashless fuel and lubricant detergent compositions.
Abstract:
Derivatives of Oxazoline reaction products of hydrocarbon substituted dicarboxylic acid, ester, or anhydride, for example octadecenylsuccinic anhydride and polyisobutenylsuccinic anhydride with 2,2-disubstituted-2-amino-1-alkanols, such as tris-hydroxymethylaminomethane (THAM) are useful additives in oleaginous compositions, such as sludge dispersants for lubricating oil, or anti-rust agents for gasoline.
Abstract:
An extreme pressure lubricant is provided comprising a major portion of a lubricating oil or grease and a minor portion of an extreme pressure additive which is a partial amine of a di- or tricarboxylic acid of 21 to 100 carbon atoms alone or in combination with carbon or both of a hydrocarbylthioether and a phosphate ester.
Abstract:
A new multipurpose carburetor detergent for addition to gasoline is disclosed and claimed. The novel multipurpose detergent material shows excellent activity as a carburetor detergent, induction system detergent (% deposit reduction), combustion chamber detergency and, in addition, provides effective rust inhibition when used in automotive gasoline fuels at low concentrations. The new product is a polyisobutene phenol/epichlorohydrin/amine adduct. The novel product may also be described as the reaction product of a polyisobutene phenol with epichlorohydrin followed by amination with ethylene diamine.
Abstract:
Novel lubricating compositions are provided comprising at least one lubricating oil and at least one derivative of 1,2-dithiol-3-thiones or 1,2-dithiol-3-ones, carrying a 5-alkylthio or 5-alkarylthio substituent. The novel compositions are prepared by mixing the constituents. The novel lubricating compositions find application as oils for engines, gearboxes, automatic transmissions and the like.
Abstract:
A new class of compounds having rust inhibiting and/or corrosion protecting properties is disclosed and claimed. The compounds (or mixtures thereof) are especially useful as rust inhibitors and for corrosion protection in hydrocarbon fuel or oil compositions, such as in gasoline, diesel and home heating fuels, industrial oils and lubricating oils, and such fuel and oil compositions incorporating the novel compounds are also disclosed and claimed. In a preferred embodiment the compounds are alkyl ammonium carboxylate salt-ethoxylated alkyl phenol esters of a trimer or dimer acid (or mixture thereof).
Abstract:
Lubricants are stabilized against oxidation by adding thereto a stabilizing amount of an ester of a hindered hydroquinone. An example of a suitable material is (4-hydroxy-3,5-di-t-butylphenyl)laurate.
Abstract:
Preparation of aminated polymeric additives useful as oil additives, for example as dispersants for hydrocarbon fuels and lubricants, and as multifunctional dispersant-viscosity index improvers for lubricants, by the reaction of amine with a halogen containing copolymer of ethylene, a C.sub.3 to C.sub.18 straight or branched chain .alpha.-olefin and a C.sub.5 to C.sub.14 acyclic or alicyclic nonconjugated diolefin, said halogen containing copolymer being prepared by the halogenation of said copolymer.
Abstract:
Ester-containing compositions prepared by reacting a high molecular weight carboxylic acid acylating agent with polyoxyalkylene alcohol demulsifiers for aqueous emulsions. The ester-containing compositions are useful as additives in normally liquid fuels and lubricants.
