Abstract: A dissipation or rigid support layer for a display device (such as a touch screen display device) is provided herein. The display device may include a display unit (e.g., a LCD unit and backlight unit), an internal electronics component, and a dissipation layer disposed between the display unit and the internal electronics component. The dissipation layer may be affixed to a surface of the display unit, and the dissipation layer may be configured to at least partially disperse a mechanical force applied by the internal electronics component on the display unit when an input force moves the dissipation layer into contact with the internal electronics component. In some examples, the dissipation layer is affixed to the surface of the display unit via an adhesive layer (e.g., an optically clear adhesive layer).

Abstract: A liquid crystal panel and a cross-shaped spacer structure thereof are disclosed. The liquid crystal panel includes an array substrate, a color filter substrate, and a cross-shaped spacer structure sandwiched between the array substrate and the color filter substrate. The cross-shaped spacer structure includes a plurality of strip-like first spacers disposed on the upper surface of the array substrate and a plurality of strip-like second spacers disposed on the lower surface of the color filter substrate. The end surface of each one of the strip-like first spacers and the end surfaces of each three of the strip-like second spacers are abutted against each other in a cross manner. Thus, when the liquid crystal panel is impacted by external force, the strip-like first spacers and the strip-like second spacers can keep a tight abutment therebetween, so as to ensure the display quality of the liquid crystal panel.

Abstract: A display device having a flexured element. More particularly, the display device may incorporate a cover glass with one or more flexure bearing sections. The flexure bearing may permit the cover glass to flex and/or bend in response to stresses or strains while still maintaining contact with an attachment point. If the attachment points have different heights, for example, the cover glass may flex at the flexure bearing, thereby permitting the portion of the cover glass between the attachment points to maintain a relatively planar alignment.

Abstract: A display device includes a first supporting member disposed in the first pad area of the first base substrate and spaced apart from the sealing member to define a predetermined space. A second supporting member is filled in the predetermined space by filling and curing liquid material. This protects the display panel from harsh ambience, such as light, heat and moistures, reducing the sealing and black matrix area. Such improvement can decrease the bezel size, effectively increasing viewable area of the display, which becomes more important in the mobile device.

Abstract: The described embodiments relate generally to liquid crystal displays (LCDs), and more particularly to methods for extending a glass portion of a display to an edge of a display housing. In one embodiment, a thin cover glass layer is provided between a color filter glass layer and an upper polarizer. The thin cover glass layer is supported along an edge of the display by a filler material that can include a foam dam and a glass spacer or adhesive filler. The filler material allows the cover glass layer to be supported without damaging any drivers or circuits located on an underlying thin film transistor glass layer. In another embodiment, a glass spacer circuit with integrated drivers and circuitry on its lower surface can support the cover glass along the edge of the display.

Abstract: A backlight 200 is provided with a frame body 9 that is in contact with a side surface of a light guide plate 5, and a non-light emitting region surrounding a light emitting region of a light emitting surface of an LED 60. The side surface of the light guide plate 5 and the LED 60 can be brought close to each other, while preventing a contact therebetween by means of the frame body 9. Furthermore, by means of the frame body 9, light emitted from the LED 60 is prevented from leaking out from between the light emitting surface of the LED 60 and the side surface of the light guide plate 5. Consequently, the ratio at which the light emitted from the LED 60 is inputted to the light guide plate 5 is increased, thereby improving luminance or power saving performance of the backlight 200.
