Abstract: A flame retardant composition comprising chitosan or a modified chitosan, as well as a method for preparing a flame retardant comprising chitosan or a modified chitosan, is provided. Also provided are methods for making a flame retardant article using the described flame retardant composition. In various embodiments, the flame retardant composition is prepared by dissolution of chitosan or a modified chitosan by an aqueous acid, followed by evaporation of the water. In various embodiments, the flame retardant composition can further include at least one additional component selected from the group consisting of a polyol, flame retardant, nitrogen containing compound, carbonate containing compound, crosslinking agent, and combinations thereof.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing a shaped body, wherein, in step i), a layer of a sinter powder (SP) comprising at least one polyhydric alcohol inter alia is provided and, in step ii), the layer provided in step i) is exposed. The present invention further relates to a method of producing a sinter powder (SP) and to a sinter powder (SP) obtainable by this method. The present invention also relates to use of the sinter powder (SP) in a sintering method, and shaped bodies obtainable by the method of the invention.

Abstract: A composition including a compatibilized blend of polyamide, polyphenylene ether and a flameproofing agent that synergistically interact such that plaques produced from the composition pass a glow wire ignition temperature test (GWIT) without producing a flame. Advantageously, the flameproofing agent is non-halogenated and the compositions also free of other halogen containing components. In addition, the compositions are free of fillers and are unexpectedly still able to pass the noted tests.
