Abstract: The present application is directed to processes for removing carbon dioxide (CO2) from low CO2 concentration gaseous streams. The process comprises contacting the gaseous stream with a hydrogel for absorbing at least some CO2 from the gaseous stream. The hydrogel comprises a cross-linked hydrophilic polymer comprising a hydrophilic polymer cross-linked with a cross-linking agent. Processes for preparing the hydrogel, types of hydrogels, using the hydrogel to remove CO2 from gaseous streams, and regenerating the hydrogel to recover absorbed CO2 from the hydrogel are also disclosed.

Abstract: Aspects described herein generally relate to a sol-gel that is the reaction product of an organosilane, a metal alkoxide, an acid, and a thio-lanthanide salt having a solubility of about 1 gram or greater per gram of sol-gel at 23° C. The thio-lanthanide salt includes a cation and a thio-ligand. The cation can be lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium, scandium, yttrium, cobalt, calcium, strontium, barium, and zirconium. In another aspect, a component, such as a vehicle component, includes a metal substrate and a sol-gel disposed on the metal substrate. Methods can include forming a sol-gel by mixing a metal alkoxide and an acid to form a first mixture; mixing with the first mixture an organosilane to form a second mixture; and mixing with the second mixture a lanthanide salt to form a third mixture.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a continuous flow process for preparing conducting polymers, for example polyaniline. The continuous flow process can provide a controlled synthesis of a conducting polymer from an emulsion comprising a polymerizable organic monomer and a free radical initiator in flow within a temperature controlled continuous flow reactor comprising at least one mixing element. The present disclosure also relates to the conducting polymers prepared by the continuous flow process.

Abstract: A process for recovering titanium dioxide from a titanium-bearing material, the process including the steps of: leaching the titanium-bearing material in a first leaching step at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature of 70 to 97° C. with a first lixiviant to produce a first leach solution comprising undissolved first leach solids that include a titanium content and a first leach liquor, the first lixiviant comprising hydrochloric acid at a concentration of less than 23% w/w; separating the first leach liquor and the undissolved first leach solids; leaching the first leach solids in a second leaching step at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature of 60 to 80° C. with a second lixiviant in the presence of a Fe powder reductant to produce a second leach solution comprising undissolved second each solids and a second leach liquor that includes a leached titanium content and iron content, the second lixiviant comprising a mixed chloride solution comprising less than 23% w/w hydrochloric acid and an additional chloride selected from alkali metal chlorides, magnesium chloride and calcium chloride, or mixtures thereof; separating the second leach liquor and the undissolved second leach solids; and thereafter separating the titanium dioxide and the iron content from the second leach liquor by precipitation, and regenerating the second lixiviant for recycle to the second leaching step.

Abstract: A system for generating a costmap for use in planning a path through an environment, the system including one or more suitably programmed processing devices configured to obtain a map of the environment, acquire traversal data indicative of an ability to traverse parts of the environment, for each part of the environment, calculate a traversal indicator indicative of the ability to traverse the part, the traversal indicator being calculated in a colour space, and colourise the map using the traversal indicators to thereby generate a colourised costmap indicative of an ability to traverse the environment, the colourised costmap allowing path planning to be performed.

Abstract: An on-line energy dispersive X-ray diffraction (EDXRD) analyser for mineralogical analysis of material in a process stream or a sample is disclosed. The analyser includes a collimated X-ray source to produce a diverging beam of polychromatic X-rays, and an energy resolving X-ray detector, and a substantially X-ray transparent member having the form of a solid of revolution which is circularly symmetric about a central axis between the collimated X-ray source and the energy resolving X-ray detector, an outer surface of the X-ray transparent member positionable adjacent the material to be analysed. A primary beam collimator is disposed adjacent to or within the substantially X-ray transparent member to substantially prevent direct transmission of polychromatic X-rays emitted from the source to the detector. The analyser is configured such that the diverging beam of polychromatic X-rays are directed towards the substantially X-ray transparent member, and where the energy resolving X-ray detector collects a portion of the beam of X-rays diffracted by the material and outputs a signal containing energy information of the collected, diffracted X-rays.
