Abstract: Collimating apparatus for regulating the cross-sectional size and shape of a beam of radiation which comprises a first shutter device adapted to be positioned adjacent the source of radiation and a pair of associated plane shutter devices cooperatively connected with the first shutter device whereby when either of the plane shutter devices is operated the first shutter will simultaneously be operated, the means by which the plane shutter devices are interconnected with the first shutter device being such that the cross-sectional size and shape of the beam passing through the collimator will be controlled by the plane shutter device, and the first shutter will intercept marginal radiation but will not intercept the primary to such an extent as will decrease the size of the beam regulated by the plane shutter devices.

Abstract: X-ray apparatus for preventing overexposure of a subject to Xradiation by limiting the size of the irradiated area to conform substantially to the size of any one of a number of predetermined selected film sizes. This is achieved by an electrical system for compiling and integrating information indicative of the longitudinal and lateral dimensions of the film area, the distance between the film and the X-ray tube, and the size of the cone of radiation as established by adjusted collimation of the X-ray beam. The electrical system functions to effectively permit operation of the X-ray tube when integrated information indicates that the various components of the apparatus are properly adjusted so that the size of the cone of radiation and, consequently, of the irradiated area conforms substantially to the size of a film being used.

Abstract: A cathode structure for electron discharge tubes comprising parallel filament wires extending longitudinally in an axial plane of the tube with all wires carrying input current arranged as a group on one side of the center of the structure and all wires carrying output current arranged as a second group on the other side thereof, filament support rods having peripheral grooves at equally spaced intervals along the length thereof attached at one end to the filament wires and at the other end to respective coil springs, and thin metallic frames surrounding each group of filament support rods in planes perpendicular thereto such that the ends of opposing cantilever arms attached to the frames engage the peripheral grooves of the support rods to restrain lateral movement thereof while permitting longitudinal movement to allow the coil springs to compensate for thermal elongation and contraction of the filament wires.
