Abstract: [Problem] To provide a side airbag apparatus capable of quickly and properly restraining a passenger in the initial stage of deploying an airbag, along with a passenger protection apparatus including this.
[Resolution means] A side airbag apparatus according to the present invention includes: an airbag for restraining a passenger when expanded and deployed; and an inflator for supplying expansion gas to the airbag. The airbag includes: a first chamber which houses the inflator and is deployed outside in the vehicle width direction of the frame side wall part; and a second chamber which is deployed inside in the vehicle width direction of the frame side wall part. In addition, the first chamber is deployed such that at least a portion thereof, as seen from the vehicle side, overlaps the frame side wall part. At this time, the rear end part of an expanding region of the second chamber, as seen from the vehicle side, is formed in front of the rear end part of the first chamber.-

Abstract: A side airbag apparatus which allows a reduced amount of base fabric and, enables gas to flow efficiently inside the cushion. An inflator (110) supplies gas, a cushion (104) in which base fabrics are formed into a bag shape and inflates and deploys to protect an occupant (118) during a vehicle emergency, a base fabric joint portion (120) which is provided to join main panels 108a and 108b of the cushion (104) in a linear manner and partitions the cushion (104) into a rear chamber (114), a front chamber (116), and an opening (123) provided midway along the base fabric joint portion (120). The base fabric joint portion (120) includes vent forming portions 125a and 125b arranged in two rows which extend from both ends of the opening (123) towards the front chamber (116) or rear chamber (114) and form a projecting vent (124). The projecting vent (124) permits flow of gas between the rear chamber (114) and the front chamber (116).

Abstract: A side airbag device 1 having a tensioned tether 5 is attached to an outer surface of the airbag 2 on a side facing an occupant. The tether 5 has a shape with a front edge 5a vertical length a longer than a rear edge 5b vertical length. The front edge 5a continuously extends in a vertical direction along a front end 2c of the airbag 2 between upper and lower parts when deployed. The rear edge continuously extends in the vertical near a rear end 2d of the airbag 2 between the upper and lower parts. The front edge 5a joins in the vertical direction to the airbag 2 front end 2c, and the tether 5 moves in an oblique direction having a vertical and horizontal direction components in a state of being pulled in an oblique direction inclined to the vertical direction when deployed.

A sectioning wall 124 which constitutes a front edge and an upper edge of the rear chamber 114. A front chamber 116 inflates into areas toward the front of the vehicle and the upper part of the vehicle from the sectioning wall 124. An upper opening 126 is formed on the sectioning wall 124 in a rear part of the upper edge of the rear chamber 114. A lower opening 128 is formed on the sectioning wall 124 in a lower part of the front edge of the rear chamber 114.

Abstract: This invention relates to a side airbag device stored inside a vehicle seat and fixed to a side frame. The device includes an airbag that expands and deploys to restrict an occupant; an inflator that supplies expansion gas to the airbag; and a bracket connected to the side frame that holds the airbag and the inflator. The airbag includes a prepush chamber having an inflator stored therein and mainly deploys inside of the side frame; and a main chamber connected to the prepush chamber and mainly deploys forward of the side frame. The bracket includes a first surface oriented in the forward direction of the vehicle; and a second surface oriented to the inside of the seat in the width direction of the vehicle. When the airbag is stored by being folded and/or rolled, at least the main chamber is disposed on the first surface of the bracket.

Abstract: An airbag cushion including a cushion rear portion on the inner side of a frame side plate part, a cushion folded portion folded to the outer side of the frame side plate part, and a cushion front portion on the outer side of the frame side plate part.
