Abstract: A system performs measurements in storage containers for storing items. The storage containers are stored in an automated storage system including a framework structure forming a three-dimensional storage grid structure for storing the storage containers. The grid structure forms vertical storage columns each having a horizontal area defined by the size of an access opening of the vertical storage columns. A rail system is arranged on the framework structure defining the circumference of each access opening on top of each storage column. The rail system provides available routes for container handling vehicles handling and transferring the storage containers to and from the storage columns. The system further includes a testing station, accessible to a container handling vehicle via the rail system, with measuring equipment for measuring atmospheric conditions and for performing measurements in said storage container. The testing station is configured to communicate measurement data to a computer system. The testing station includes an upper part to which a measuring platform with measuring equipment is attached, a lower part for holding a container, and connector for connecting the upper part and the lower part and the testing station includes a lifting device adapted to raise and lower the measuring platform.

Abstract: A storage facility includes a storage space enclosing a storage and retrieval system, a transit space, and a first separation wall. The storage and retrieval system includes a storage grid configured to store a plurality of storage containers in vertical stacks, a first upper vehicle support extending in an upper horizontal plane above the storage grid, and a container handling vehicle configured to transport at least one of the plurality of storage containers on a wheel arrangement between at least two locations on the first upper vehicle support. The transit space includes a second upper vehicle support extending in the upper horizontal plane and arranged relative to the first upper vehicle support such that the container handling vehicle may move between the storage space and the transit space. The first separation wall separating the storage space and transit space. The first separation wall includes a first upper opening having a minimum size and vertical position allowing the container handling vehicle to pass through, and a first upper closable gate configured to open and close the first opening.

Abstract: An automated storage and retrieval system includes a rail system with perpendicular tracks in X and Y direction. The storage and retrieval system includes a plurality of remotely operated container handling vehicles configured to move laterally on the rail system; and a main control system using a first communication system for communicating with the plurality of remotely operated container handling vehicles. The main control system monitors and controls the movement of the plurality of container handling vehicles via the first communication system. At least one service vehicle is movable on the rail system. The at least one service vehicle is configured to bring a malfunctioning remotely operated container handling vehicle to a service area outside of the rail system where the remotely operated container handling vehicles operate. The system further includes a secondary control system using a second communication system. The second communication system is independent of the main communication system. The secondary control system is communicating with the at least one service vehicle on the rail system such as to monitor and control the movement of the at least one service vehicle.

Abstract: An automated storage and retrieval system includes a rail system including a first set of parallel tracks arranged in a horizontal plane and extending in a first direction, and a second set of parallel tracks arranged in the horizontal plane and extending in a second direction which is orthogonal to the first direction. The first and second sets of tracks form a grid pattern in the horizontal plane including a plurality of adjacent grid cells. Each adjacent grid cell includes a grid opening defined by a pair of neighboring tracks of the first set of tracks and a pair of neighboring tracks of the second set of tracks; and a plurality of stacks of storage containers arranged in storage columns located beneath the rail system. Each storage column is located vertically below a grid opening. A container handling vehicle includes a transport mechanism for transport of the vehicle on the rail system, a lifting assembly for picking up storage containers from the storage columns to a position above the lowest level of the transport mechanism. The lifting assembly includes a lifting frame connectable to a storage container, a first lifting shaft and a second lifting shaft. The first and second lifting shafts are mainly parallel, and each of the first and second lifting shafts are supported in an upper portion of the vehicle. Two lifting elements extend from each of the first and second lifting shafts to the lifting frame. A motor drive assembly includes at least a first motor, and a force transferring assembly rotatably connecting the first and second lifting shafts via a force transferring element.

Abstract: A storage facility includes a storage space, a container handling vehicle, a first upper vehicle support, a first lower vehicle support, a container delivery vehicle, a transit space, and a first separation wall. The storage space encloses a storage and retrieval system including a storage grid configured to store a plurality of storage containers in vertical stacks. The first upper vehicle support extends in an upper horizontal plane above the storage grid. The container handling vehicle is configured: to transport at least one of the plurality of storage containers by a wheel arrangement between at least two locations on the first upper vehicle support; and to vertically displace the at least one storage container by a lifting device. The first lower vehicle support extends in a lower horizontal plane below the first upper vehicle support. The container delivery vehicle operates within a lower section of the storage space above the first lower vehicle support. The container delivery vehicle is configured to receive the at least one storage container from the container handling vehicle and to transport the at least one storage container between at least two locations on the first lower vehicle support by a wheel arrangement. The transit space includes a second lower vehicle support extending in the lower horizontal plane and arranged relative to the first lower vehicle support such that the container delivery vehicle may move between the lower section of the storage space and a lower section of the transit space. The first separation wall separates the storage space and the transit space. The first separation wall includes: a first lower opening sized and positioned to allow the container delivery vehicle to pass through between the lower section of the storage space and the lower section of the transit space; and a first lower closable gate configured to open and close the first lower opening.

Abstract: An automated storage and retrieval system includes a rail system, a master control system, and a plurality of remotely operated vehicles. The rail system includes a first and second set of parallel tracks arranged orthogonally in a horizontal plane. The master control system is configured to keep track of any remotely operated vehicle operating on the rail system. The plurality of remotely operated vehicles handling storage containers, which operate on the rail system, each include first and second sets of wheels for transport on the rail system, and a fire detection device configured to transmit data from the fire detection device to the master control system. The master control system includes a processing device for processing the data from the fire detection devices so as to create a heat map of the automated storage and retrieval system.

Abstract: A container handling vehicle for an automated storage and retrieval system includes a three-dimensional grid having multiple storage columns, in which containers are stored one on top of another in vertical stacks. The container handling vehicle is arrangeable above a top level of the grid for retrieving a container from, and storing a container in, at least some of the storage columns, and/or for transporting a container horizontally across the top level of the grid. The container handling vehicle has a lifting device including a lifting frame for releasable connection to a container, and lifting bands arranged to lower and raise the lifting frame relative to the storage columns. The lifting device includes a container centring device arranged to extend around portions of the lifting frame. The container centring device having a lower open end including at least one edge element for interaction with a peripheral part of the upper end of a storage column. The edge element is arranged such that a container connected to the lifting frame is centred relative said upper end when the edge element interacts with the peripheral part.
