    Abstract: Methods and power tools for sensorless motor control. One embodiment provides a method for automatic control switching for driving a sensorless motor (150) of a power tool (100). The method includes determining, using a motor controller (224), a first load point based on user inputs (232) and determining, using the motor controller (224), a first motor control technique corresponding to the first load point. The method also includes driving the motor (150) based on the first motor control technique. The method further includes determining, using the motor controller (224), a change from the first load point to a second load point and determining, using the motor controller (224), a second motor control technique corresponding to the second load point. The method includes driving the motor (150) based on the second motor control technique.

    Abstract: A power tool including a housing, an input, a gear train, a motor at least partially supported by the housing and coupled to the gear train, and a controller including a processor and a memory. The controller is coupled to the input and the motor and is configured to receive an input signal from the input, determine an operating direction and an operating speed based on the input signal, cause the motor to rotate the gear train in a direction opposite the operating direction for a predetermined amount of rotation, and cause the motor to rotate in the operating direction at the operating speed.

    Abstract: A rotary power tool includes a gear case, an output shaft, a drive mechanism, and a clutch mechanism. The clutch mechanism including a compression spring positioned around the output shaft. The rotary power tool further includes a clutch adjustment assembly having a collar disposed circumferentially around the gear case and rotatable to adjust a length of the compression spring, an inductive sensor disposed within the collar and proximate the compression spring such that a voltage is induced in the inductive sensor in response to relative movement between the compression spring and a magnetic field emitted by the inductive sensor, and an electronic control unit configured to receive an output signal from the inductive sensor indicative of the change in inductance in the inductive sensor and to determine a parameter of the clutch mechanism based on the output signal. The compression spring is disposed adjacent and offset from the inductive sensor.

The battery pack includes a power output interface, a plurality of battery cells configured to output the first voltage, and a voltage boosting circuit electrically connected to the plurality of battery cells. The voltage boosting circuit receives the first voltage and outputs a second voltage to the power output interface. The power tool system also includes a power tool. The power tool includes a motor, a power input interface configured to receive the second voltage, and a voltage reduction circuit. The voltage reduction circuit receives the second voltage from the power input interface and provides a third voltage to the motor. The power tool system further includes a power cable configured to transmit power from the power output interface of the battery pack to the power input interface of the power tool.
