Abstract: First and second hearing assistance devices each comprise a rechargeable power source and power management circuitry configured to control charging of the power sources. A portable charging unit comprises an interface configured to receive a connector of a power cable or a power and data cable, a rechargeable power source coupled to the interface, first and second charge ports configured to receive the first and second hearing assistance devices, and charging circuitry coupled to the first and second charge ports and to the rechargeable power source of the charging unit. The power management circuitry and the charging circuitry cooperate to partially charge the power sources of the hearing assistance devices at an accelerated charge rate above 1.0C when a state of charge (SoC) of the power sources is within a predetermined SoC range.

Abstract: Systems and methods relate to a charger and a rechargeable device. The rechargeable device includes a power manager and a power storage device. The power manager may include one or more diodes and a controller configured to detect a charging current, provide a managed power output, and modulate the charging current to communicate through the current. The charger may include controller configured to store a device identifier in memory associated with a last charge state, determine whether a retrieved device identifier matches, and provide an indication of a current charge state in response to a match. The controller of the charger may be configured to send an electrical pulse to the rechargeable device and determine a polarity for charging the device.

Abstract: A system may have a rechargeable hearing instrument with a power source, an ultraviolet (UV) sensor configured to convert received UV light into electrical power and charging circuitry coupled to the UV sensor and to the power source. The charging circuitry may use the electrical power to charge the power source. A charger may have a charging cavity configured to receive the rechargeable hearing instrument. A power source within the charger powers a UV light source located within the charger configured to provide UV light to the UV sensor of the rechargeable hearing instrument when the rechargeable hearing instrument is placed within the charging cavity.

Abstract: Examples of this disclosure relate to an accessory device for a hearing instrument. The accessory device comprises a connector tip that comprises a first wire segment and a second wire segment. The first and second wire segments are electrically conductive and electrically insulated from each other. The connector tip also comprises a first set of bristles and a second set of bristles. The first and second sets of bristles are electrically conductive. The first set of bristles is electrically connected to the first wire segment and electrically insulated from the second wire segment. The second set of bristles is electrically connected to the second wire segment and electrically insulated from the first wire segment. The first set of bristles is spaced sufficiently far from the second set of bristles as to prevent a short circuit between the first and second sets of bristles.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to ear-wearable devices. In an embodiment, a system is included having an ear-wearable device having a speaker, a microphone, a first processor, a first non-transitory computer memory, and a first wireless communication device. The system can include a remote-control module having remote-control processor, a remote-control wireless communication device, a pressure switch, a inertial measurement unit (IMU), and a remote-control memory. The remote-control memory stores computer instructions for registering a start position of the IMU at an activation time, detecting a first movement of the IMU, and transmitting a first wireless signal related to the first movement to the first wireless communication device. The first memory stores computer instructions for receiving the first wireless signal at the first wireless communication device, and based on the first wireless signal, changing a first setting of the ear-wearable device. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Abstract: An ear-wearable electronic device comprises a shell having a uniquely-shaped outer surface that corresponds uniquely to an ear geometry of a wearer of the device. The shell comprises a window through a proximal portion of the shell and positioned at ear canal tissue when the device is deployed in the wearer's ear. An optical sensor, such as a photoplethysmograph (PPG) sensor, is disposed in the window. A biasing member has a uniquely-shaped outer surface that corresponds uniquely to a geometry of at least a portion of a pinna of the wearer's ear. The biasing member is configured to generate a biasing force sufficient to maintain static positioning of the optical sensor relative to the ear canal tissue during wearer body and jaw movement.

Abstract: An ear-wearable electronic device has a shell with an outer surface. A mounting void goes through the outer surface of the shell and exposes an internal volume of the shell. The mounting void is located at an ear-contacting region of the shell. The ear-wearable device includes a photoplethysmography sensor assembly having an optical transmission structure mounted in the mounting void and having a distal end exposed proximate the outer surface. The distal end of the optical transmission structure conforms to the outer surface of the shell at the ear-contacting region. The distal end is in contact with ear tissue of a user of the ear-wearable electronic device during use.
