Abstract:
Acoustical-based methods that increase tissue oxygenation, and equipment for carrying out the methods, are provided. The methods involve exposing tissue to low frequency sound in order to increase blood flow in the tissue, and hence oxygenation of the tissue. The methods may be used to treat or prevent disorders related to ischemia and low blood flow, such as shock, stroke and congestive heart failure.

Abstract:
A pressure-sensing massage machine that resolves the problems of difficult assembly and adjustment and the occurrence of operational errors common to a sensing mechanism that uses many components and devices. The massage machine of the present invention is able to monitor the pressure applied to the massage recipient by a motor-driven movably extending massaging member. A flexible member is provided in the transmission located between the massage member and the motor that drives the massage member, and a pressure sensing mechanism monitors the pressure applied to the massage recipient through the flexible displacement of the flexible member.

The device includes indidication means (9) responsive to the force applied to the body by the user for providing an indication of the cardiac compression applied to the sternum. Also disclosed is a resuscitation mask adapted to be place over the mouth of a patient, the mask includes a nostril closing means adapted to press against the sides of the nose to close the nostrils when the mask is sealed against the face of the patient.
Abstract:
An air massaging device having at least one inflatable air bag adapted to be laid against a portion of the human body. The device includes an air pump generating a pressurized air and a distributor valve which has an open position of feeding the pressurized air to the air bag and a closed position of allowing the pressurized air to be discharged from the air bag to the atmosphere in order to repeat inflating and deflating the air bag. A single pressure sensor is disposed upstream of the distributor valve to monitor a pressure level developed on the side of the air pump. A control circuit is included to activate the air pump on a time-period basis in order to give a desired pressure level to which the air bag is inflated. The control circuit operates to provide one or more initial inflation cycle and subsequent inflation cycles alternated by deflating cycles. During the initial inflating cycle, the air pump is activated for a pre-determined standard inflation time period to inflate the air bag and then stops while keeping the air bag inflated for a short time interval in which the pressure level of the air bag is monitored. In the subsequent inflating cycles, the air pump is activated for a varying inflation time period which is a function of the previous inflation time period, a desired target pressure level selected by a user, and the pressure level monitored in the previous inflation cycle.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tourniquet includes an inflatable cuff, a pressurizing mechanism for pressurizing the cuff, a pressure relief mechanism for depressurizing the cuff, a pressure sensing mechanism for sensing the pressure to which the cuff is pressurized and a pressure regulator mechanism for selectably activating the pressurizing mechanism and the pressure relief means to maintain the cuff pressure near a selected pressure. Visual and audible alarm signals are triggered if the cuff pressure exceeds a cuff pressurization limit, if the cuff pressure falls below a cuff depressurization limit, or if the cuff has remained pressurized for, or in excess of a selected time period.A computer may be used to sense the cuff pressure and pressurized or depressurized the cuff as required to maintain the cuff pressure within upper and lower cuff pressure limits.
Abstract:
The electronic circuit includes switch means responsive to the pressure within a first chamber of a dynamic pressure wave appliance for generating an enabling signal when a predetermined pressure level in the first chamber has been reached. A transducer is provided to generate a signal representative of the pressure within a second chamber of the appliance. The electronic circuit includes means for generating a signal representing a first predetermined pressure level and a second predetermined pressure level in the second chamber when the enabling signal is generated. A comparator is responsive to the predetermined pressure level signals and the transducer signal for generating control signals to a solenoid. The solenoid is connected to appropriate valves for regulating the pneumatic control circuit. The electronic control circuit will cause a dynamic pressure wave appliance to apply a pressure to a human or animal extremity which begins at the most distant end and travels up the extremity in the nature of a pressure wave.
Abstract:
Disclosed a system (100) for enacting a positive and a negative pressure on a limb. The system (100) includes an air compressor (102) coupled to a reservoir (104), a piston assembly (106) configured to the reservoir (104), wherein the piston assembly (106) further comprises a piston (108) circumfused inside a tube (107), a pneumatic ring (114) coupled to the system (100) via the piston assembly (106) maintains intermittent pressure and prevents formation of a venous blood clot ischemic injury to a tissue distal to the pneumatic ring (114) compression due to lack of blood flow.
