Abstract:
A filter candle element which is mounted in depending manner in a pressure container has a support body and a filter tissue which covers the support body and has at least one impermeable portion so as to prevent the depositing of a continuous filter cake. Through provision of a plurality of impermeable portions, the filter cake is divided into several pieces which do not obstruct their removal. The impermeable portions are obtained by spraying of synthetic material onto the filter tissue. These filter candle elements are especially suitable for alluvial filters of large dimensions.
Abstract:
A device for removing screened or sifted material from liquid flowing in a gutter (1) has a sloping cylindrical grizzly (11) that is mounted in the gutter, that is partly immersed in the liquid, and that has a face that is open upstream and closed downstream. The device also has a conveyor (5) that is positioned coaxial to the grizzly, that leads to an ejection point (18) outside of the liquid, and that has a powered shaft (7) and a housing (6). The conveyor has an intake funnel (9) for the screened or sifted material in the vicinity of the grizzly. The device also has a separator (15) for the screened or sifted material positioned above the intake funnel. The grizzly (11) is rotated. The separator (15) is positioned stationary on the outside of the grizzly (11) and releases screened or sifted material that adheres to the inside of the grizzly.
Abstract:
A self-cleaning renewable fluid filter that flushes a permanent filter media while the used oil is pumped out by the engine oil pump through a drain in the housing. The fluid filter has an inlet and a drain, a center core with an outlet, a drain valve normally closing the drain, a permanent fluid filter media inbetween the inlet and outlet, a plug for closing the outlet, an actuator for opening the drain valve and an improved bypass valve which bypasses fluid and enables reversal of fluid flow through the filter media during draining for flushing the media. The preferred drain valve actuator is an electric solenoid coil inside of the filter and the improved bypass valve is an annular valve around the center core and inside of a cylinder formed in an inlet end cap of the filter media. The used oil is pumped out the drain after it has passed through the media in a reversed direction, while the engine is idling, until the engine oil sump is evacuated and the ensuing air from the pump forces the oil out of the filter housing.
Abstract:
Growing of microorganisms takes place in a fermenter in which simultaneously products of metabolism are separated and withdrawn by microfiltration with the aid of a diaphragm filter, and a suspension of microorganisms is stirred in the fermenter in the region immediately surrounding the diaphragm filter.
Abstract:
A solid-liquid separator comprising a vertical dewatering chamber enclosed by an outer foraminous wall or screen through which the slurry is passed so as to remove the liquid and return the solids within the dewatering chamber. The incoming slurry is deflected and directed into the screen by a stationary X-shaped plate baffle. Solids which cannot pass through the screen and remaining water, flow by gravity out the bottom of the dewatering chamber and onto a further dewatering screen.
Abstract:
A separator particularly useful in freeze concentration systems and apparatus, particularly multi-stage countercurrent systems for concentrating aqueous feed liquid, but useful for other kinds of separators as well. The slurry to be separated enters a vessel in which is mounted and rotated a cylindrical filter. The liquid passes through the filter to one outlet while the solids accumulate on the filter and are removed and directed to another outlet by a fixed scraper.
Abstract:
In the method of automatically controlling a continuously operating pressure filter, into which a suspension to be separated is introduced and from which a separated filtrate and a formed product, i.e. a concentrated suspension, are removed, a tolerated constant operating pressure is maintained in a filtering chamber of the pressure filter. During operation the transmission or throughput capacity of the filtering walls in the filtering chamber gradually decreases with increasing operating time of the pressure filter. To maintain, during operation, a constant ratio of the proportions of dry solid and liquid in the product the flow of suspension and the flow of product are regulated during operation in accordance with the result of measuring the transmission or throughput capacity of the filtering walls. Each time when a decrease is detected each of the two flows is reduced by the same coefficient which is directly proportional to the respectively detected decrease in the transmission capacity. Consequently, a desired ratio of the flow of suspension and of the flow of product which is present at the beginning of the operation is maintained constant during operation and remains constant. Measurement of the transmission or throughput capacity is accomplished by measuring either the respective flow of filtrate or by measuring the tolerated operating pressure. Advantageously the suspension to be separated is introduced and the product to be removed is removed volumetrically positively by means of regulatable metering pumps.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a flush-back filter, in particular for the filtration of oil, having filter elements (filter cartridges) arranged in a circle in the filter housing and a flushing member rotatable around the filter axis for the back-flushing of filter elements with the filtrate. According to the invention said filter elements are arranged on at least two concentric circles within the interior of said filter housing whereby said filter elements lying on one circle are located in the gaps between said filter elements lying on the other circle. For back-flushing of said filter elements horizontal on the concentric circle, there is a common flushing member below and with a small radial dimension, which is driven by a rotary drive. The back-flush filter has at least fourteen to twenty filter elements. Furthermore, a safety filter is arranged on the interior of the filter housing, which encircles said filter elements.
Abstract:
A filtration assembly including a perforate basket, screen and filtration media is provided with bands of complementary releasable attachment means along mating surfaces. The complementary releasable attachment means permit the backing screen and filtration media to be installed in and removed from the perforate basket simply without tools, while retaining the backing screen and filtration media in proper alignment with the perforate basket during the filtration process.
Abstract:
A cartridge-type filter has easily exchangeable and safe distance handling filter cartridges contaminated with radiation-emitting contaminants. The filter includes a filter housing having an inner annular shoulder forming a valve seat, and a filter cartridge has an outer ring in sealing engagement with the shoulder for both supporting the cartridge and dividing the filter housing into two separate chambers respectively in communication with the supply and return conduits provided on the housing. A portion of the reactor cooling water is conducted continuously through the filter circuit which is parallel to the main water flow.
