Abstract: A method is provided to control a hybrid powertrain comprising an internal combustion engine; a gearbox with input and output shafts; a range gearbox, connected to the output shaft; a first planetary gear, connected to the input shaft; a second planetary gear, connected to the first planetary gear; a first electrical machine, connected to the first planetary gear; a second electrical machine, connected to the second planetary gear; at least one gear pair, connected with the first planetary gear and the output shaft; and at least one gear pair, connected with the second planetary gear and the output shaft, wherein the internal combustion engine is connected with the first planetary gear via the input shaft. The method comprises the steps: a) engaging a gear by way of connecting two rotatable components in the first planetary gear; b) connecting the at least one gear pair, connected with the second planetary gear and the output shaft; c) connecting a sixth gear pair, arranged between a countershaft and the range gearbox with the countershaft, so that the countershaft is connected with the output shaft via the range gearbox; d) controlling the range gearbox from a low range position to a neutral state, in which no torque transmission occurs through the range gearbox; e) controlling two rotatable components in the range gearbox towards achieving a synchronized rotational speed with the assistance of the first electrical machine; f) connecting the rotatable components with the use of a shiftable third clutch device; and g) engaging a gear by way of connecting two rotatable components in the second planetary gear.

Abstract: An electric motor damping module includes an electric motor, a motor damper continuously interconnected with the electric motor, and an input member continuously interconnected with the motor damper. A transmission includes these elements, plus an output member, first, second, and third planetary gear sets each having first, second and third members, a first interconnecting member continuously interconnecting the third member of the first planetary gear set with the second member of the second planetary gear set, a second interconnecting member continuously interconnecting the second member of the first planetary gear set and the output member with the third member of the third planetary gear set, and a third interconnecting member continuously interconnecting the third member of the second planetary gear set with the second member of the third planetary gear set. The transmission also includes six torque transmitting mechanisms and a hydraulic pump. A sealing assembly is also provided.

Abstract: When a fourth sun gear is held stationary so as to be unrotatable, a Ravigneaux type planetary gear mechanism transfers power, which has been transferred from an input shaft to a third carrier, to a third sun gear and a third ring gear with the speed of the power increased such that the rotational speed of the third sun gear is higher than the rotational speed of the third ring gear. A clutch, which corresponds to the third sun gear which rotates at a higher speed than that of the third ring gear, is disposed between the Ravigneaux type planetary gear mechanism and a second planetary gear disposed in proximity to the Ravigneaux type planetary gear mechanism with respect to a first planetary gear.

Abstract: A tolerance ring is interposed between an output side rotary shaft and a rotor shaft. For this reason, even in a case where a backlash formed in a spline fitting portion between the output side rotary shaft and the rotor shaft is not eliminated, the rotary shafts of both of the output side rotary shaft and the rotor shaft are held by the tolerance ring without a backlash, and rattling noise can be suppressed. An oil supply groove for supplying a lubricant between an annular portion of the tolerance ring and the output side rotary shaft is provided inside an annular groove formed in the output side rotary shaft. With this, it is possible to suppress degradation of the durability of the tolerance ring without performing special processing on the tolerance ring.

Abstract: A transmission calibration tool automatically generates a detailed gearbox model based on a user input transmission topology description. During transmission calibration, the tool accepts inputs from transmission speed and torque sensors and estimates component torques for each gear element and each shift element. Following a shift or other transmission event, the calibration tool plots the component torques as a function of time, permitting the calibration engineer to better understand what is occurring during the event, and thus reducing the time required for calibration. The calibration tool also adapts several transmission component models and outputs the adapted models to provide insight into actual transmission component behavior.

Abstract: A tolerance ring is arranged between an output-side rotary shaft and a rotor shaft. For this reason, even when looseness in a spline fitting portion of the output-side rotary shaft and rotor shaft is not filled, both the output-side rotary shaft and the rotor shaft are held by the tolerance ring so as not to rattle. Therefore, it is possible to reduce tooth hammer noise that occurs in the spline fitting portion.

Abstract: A family of hybrid electric transmissions operate in at least three modes based on selective engagement of shift elements. In a low mode, torque in a mechanical power flow path is multiplied for better low speed performance. At higher vehicle speeds, the transmission shifts into a high mode to improve efficiency. Some embodiments include a reverse mode. In other embodiments, a series mode may be used in reverse. The shift elements may include friction clutches, positive engagement clutches, and controllable one way clutches.
