    Abstract: A waterwheel assembly has entry and outlet flow directing channel portions and a flow directing member below the waterwheel. The waterwheel has a plurality of radially disposed paddles mounted on a rotatable shaft and arranged with spaces between the paddles in open fluid communication in the center portion of the waterwheel. The upper portion of the waterwheel is enclosed in a pressurized air cavity so water is kept in the lower portion of the waterwheel. A method of controlling the water flow in a watershed includes directing water flow through small channels which connect with larger channels with flow controlling waterwheels in the channels at selected location so that releasing water through the waterwheels controls water flow and thus regulates runoff in the watershed area.

    Abstract: Centripetal blades of a compressible fluid turbine project into a scroll-like steam induction passage so that their tips lie at or near the tangential centerline of the passage inlet when each blade tip is disposed in a plane normal to such centerline. A pressure reducing valve in the inlet to the steam induction passage converts steam pressure into kinetic energy and is adjusted to produce a velocity of steam at the inlet which is substantially greater than the peripheral velocity of the blade. There is very little reaction effect of the steam on the centripetal blades as the steam is directed radially inwardly and then axially in opposite directions to axial flow portions of the turbine and, consequently, the efficiency of the turbine is increased.

    Abstract: A turbine includes a plurality of stacked disks, each disk comprising an opening in the center of the disk, which forms a central flow chamber. The turbine further includes a first disk that is coupled to a bottom of the plurality of stacked disks. The first disk does not have an opening in the center like the stacked disks. There is a plurality of disk spacers positioned between one or more of the plurality of stacked disks, thereby creating flow channels between the disks. The flow channels extend from an outside perimeter of the stacked disks to the central flow chamber. A tapered armature is coupled to the first disk and positioned within the central flow chamber, and a fluid collection unit is in communication with the outside perimeter of the stacked disks.

    Abstract: An expansion turbine stage for compressed gases has a housing and a turbine rotor. The housing has flow guide channels for feeding the compressed gas to the turbine rotor. The turbine rotor, which is over-mounted and has centripetal flow through it, is followed by an out-flow diffuser enclosed by the housing, to delay the cold expanded gas. The out-flow diffuser is arranged in a holder bore in the housing, as a separate component. For thermal insulation of the housing relative to the cold expanded gas stream, the out-flow diffuser is made of a non-metallic material having a low heat conductivity.
