Abstract: A particulate solid composition comprises a blend of dialkyl sulfosuccinate and a water-soluble polymer. The water-soluble polymer can be a cellulose ether, a polysaccharide, a polyvinyl alcohol homopolymer or copolymer, a polyvinyl pyrrolidone homopolymer or copolymer, a polyvinyl caprolactam polymer or copolymer, a poly(meth)acrylate, a poly(alkylene oxide) graft copolymer, or a combination thereof. The particulate solid composition is free flowing, water-soluble, and dissolves rapidly in water. It can be made by drying a solution of dialkyl sulfosuccinate and a water-soluble polymer. The particulate solid composition can be mixed with organic substances having low water solubility, for example a generic, a biologic, a biosimilar, an excipient, a nutraceutical, a medical diagnostic agent, an agricultural chemical, or a combination thereof, to form water-soluble compositions.

Abstract: The invention relates to a laminar body for making greenhouse roofs, comprising at least one laminar layer, which defines at least one main surface of the laminar body and comprises a polymer matrix and nano-particles of titanium dioxide TiO2 in the anatase and/or rutilium form, dispersed in the polymer matrix. The nano-particles have dimensions not greater than 100 nm. The titanium dioxide is present with a concentration in weight of between ′30 and 1500 ppm in relation to the polymer matrix. The invention also relates to a method of greenhouse cultivation and the use of the laminar body according to the invention for making greenhouse roofs. The invention also relates to a greenhouse having a roof comprising at least one laminar body according to the invention and to a masterbatch for making a laminar layer of a laminar body according to the invention.

Abstract: A method for producing a modified form of an aromatic amine compound represented by the following structure I: where A is an amine group —NHR, R is independently selected from hydrogen, linear and branched alkyl groups having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, preferably A is NH2; X is a halogen selected from Cl, Br, F, I, and At, or hydrogen (H). The method includes heating the aromatic amine compound, in its initial crystalline form, to a temperature above its melting point in order to obtain a molten material, then cooling the molten material to a temperature below the melting point of the crystalline compound so as to produce an amorphous, glassy form of the aromatic amine compound. The modified aromatic amine compound is suitable as a curing agent in resin compositions that are used for fabricating fiber-reinforced composites.

Abstract: A method for synthesizing polyacrylonitrile (PAN) polymer with a narrow molecular weight distribution is disclosed. The preferred PAN polymer has a PDI (Mw/Mn) of about 2 or less. Such PAN polymer is synthesized by controlled/living radical polymerization using a special RAFT (Reversible Addition-Fragmentation Chain Transfer) agent. Also disclosed is a method for producing carbon fibers from PAN polymer with low PDI.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods of producing alumina trihydrate crystals from an alumina trihydrate recovery process stream wherein an aqueous emulsion comprising a crystal growth modifier, which is at least one of an acyclic anhydride or an alkyl or alkenyl succinic anhydride, is added to the alumina trihydrate recovery process stream, wherein the aqueous emulsion is substantially free of mineral oils. The method provides a decrease in percentage of alumina trihydrate crystals having a volume average diameter of less than about 45 micrometers compared to the percentage of alumina trihydrate crystals produced in the absence of the crystal growth modifier. The process does not require the addition of a defoamer/anti-foam agent in order to control foam generated in the process.

Abstract: A synthesis process for making a benzoxazine compound containing at least one benzoxazine unit from aromatic amine containing at least one primary amino group, at least one phenolic compound with at least one ortho-hydrogen, and alkyl formcel. In one embodiment, the aromatic amine is reacted with alkyl formcel to generate an alkoxymethyl intermediate compound. Subsequently, the intermediate compound is reacted with a phenol to generate the benzoxazine compound. In another embodiment, the benzoxazine compound is formed by reacting aromatic amine with alkyl formcel and phenol in one reaction step. Also disclosed is a method for isolating the alkoxymethyl compound formed by reacting aromatic amine with alkyl formcel. The isolated alkoxymethyl compound is useful as a reactant in a subsequent reaction.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to carbon fibers having high tensile strength and modulus of elasticity, as well as a process for the manufacture of such carbon fiber. The process comprises spinning a polymer/solvent solution into a solvent/water bath in the range of 78%-85% solvent, thereby producing a dense fiber structure, and subsequently carbonizing the polymer precursor fiber at a lower than typical carbonization temperature to form carbon fibers.

Abstract: A prepreg fabrication system provided with an impregnation zone, which includes: (i) a movable support surface for supporting a continuous web material during impregnation; (ii) an endless roller chain carrying a plurality of linking, rotatable idler rollers, a portion of the roller chain facing the movable support surface; and (iii) pressure applicators for pressing at least some of the idler rollers facing the support surface against the support surface to form pressure nips. The movable support surface is configured to move at a first velocity during operation and the roller chain is configured to revolve at a second velocity different from the first velocity so as to establish a relative velocity between the revolving roller chain and the moving support surface, and wherein the relative movements of the support surface and the roller chain create pressure nips that are moving in the same direction as the moving direction of the support surface.
