    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods of treating a human subject having a condition mediated by a deficiency in myelin and methods of increasing oligodendrocyte production from human glial progenitor cells. These methods involve selecting a human subject having a condition mediated by a deficiency in myelin or providing a population of human glial progenitor cells and administering to the subject or the population of human glial progenitor cells one or modulators of a cell signaling pathway selected from the group consisting of Notch signaling, cAMP signaling, CIP2A signaling, RXRA signaling, TCF7L2 signaling, and combinations thereof under conditions effective to treat the condition or increase oligodendrocyte production.

    Abstract: Refractive index writing system and methods employing a pulsed laser source for providing a pulsed laser output at a first wavelength; an objective lens for focusing the pulsed laser output to a focal spot in an optical material; a scanner for relatively moving the focal spot with respect to the optical material at a relative speed and direction along a scan region for writing one or more traces in the optical material defined by a change in refractive index; and a controller for controlling laser exposures along the one or more traces in accordance with a calibration function for the optical material to achieve a desired refractive index profile in the optical material. The refractive index writing system may be for writing traces in in vivo optical tissue, and the controller may be configured with a calibration function obtained by calibrating refractive index change induced in enucleated ocular globes. A real-time process control monitor for detecting emissions from the optical material transmitted through the objective lens at a second wavelength may further be employed while writing the one or more traces.

    Abstract: Subsurface optical elements are formed within an ophthalmic lens using modulation of depth to which refractive index change inducing laser pulses are focused within the ophthalmic lens. A system for forming one or more subsurface optical structures within an ophthalmic lens comprises a control unit operatively coupled with a laser pulse source and a focusing assembly. The control unit is configured to control operation of the focusing assembly to sequentially focus each of the sequence of laser pulses onto a respective sub-volume of a sequence of sub-volumes of the ophthalmic lens. The sub-volumes of the sequence of sub-volumes have modulated depths within the ophthalmic lens and varying transverse locations within the ophthalmic lens.

    Abstract: Computer databases can be searched for relevant data values using an advanced search process. For example, a system can receive a search query indicating an attribute and a condition of a target client. The search query can be for searching one or more databases for data values relevant to the target client. The system can determine other clients described in the databases that are similar to the target client based on the attribute. The system can then filter the other clients to determine which of them has been treated for the condition. The system can identify candidate providers that treated said clients for the condition based on relationships in the databases. The system can then generate an ordered list of the candidate providers based on corresponding treatment metrics and transmit the ordered list of the candidate providers as search results in response to the search query.

    Abstract: A shape-memory polymer that is melt-recyclable with high processability and little performance loss, in contrast to known Crosslinked semicrystalline shape-memory networks that are capable of storing large amounts of elastic energy with negligible plastic deformation but as thermosets are not easily melt-processed or recycled. In examples herein, catalyst-free isocyanate chemistry is used to prepare two linear poly(caprolactone)s with bisurea hydrogen bonding groups periodically positioned along the main chain. Compared to an entangled poly(caprolactone) homopolymer of similar molecular weight, the segmented poly(bisurea)s exhibit minimal stress relaxation when elastically strained at identical conditions. Furthermore, the materials' single relaxation times indicate chain reptation, and at sufficient temperatures, disentanglement occurs rapidly enough to perform melt-processing. The polymers show excellent shape fixity and recovery before and after shredding, melt-pressing, and annealing into a reprocessed film.

    Abstract: Striated composite layers are deposited using reactive electron-beam evaporation of hafnium dioxide and silicon dioxide sublayers in a planetary rotation or linear translation system in which the hafnia and silica vapor plumes are present at the same time, and yet the hafnia and silica sublayers are distinct. The resulting StriCom materials exhibit significant improvements in laser-induced damage thresholds, thin-film stresses, environmental sensitivity, and control of refractive indices relative to monolayer hafnia films.
