Abstract:
A porous solid compound having high porosity is prepared by controlling the reaction conditions of a compound containing a cyano group and a halogenated metal compound. The porous solid compound includes one or more heterocycles formed by alternately bonding triazine and phenyl or biphenyl wherein the pore volume of the porous solid compound is 5 cm3/g or more.
Abstract:
Provided is a separator including a first layer which consists of a porous polyolefin and a secondary battery utilizing the separator. A first layer exhibits a minimum height equal to or more than 50 cm and equal to or less than 150 cm when a ball having a diameter of 14.3 mm and a weight of 11.9 g located over the first layer is allowed to free fall causing a split in the first layer. A tearing strength of the first layer in a width direction, measured with an Elmendorf tearing method, is equal to or more than 1.5 mN/μm. A tensile elongation of the first layer is equal to or longer than 0.5 mm until a load decreases to 25% of a maximum load in a load-elongation curve in machine direction measured by a rectangular tearing method.
Abstract:
The present invention provides for concentrated aqueous silk fibroin solutions and an all-aqueous mode for preparation of concentrated aqueous fibroin solutions that avoids the use of organic solvents, direct additives, or harsh chemicals. The invention further provides for the use of these solutions in production of materials, e.g., fibers, films, foams, meshes, scaffolds and hydrogels.
Abstract:
A method of controlling a flow of fluid comprises providing a porous article, the porous article comprising a fluoropolymer and a plurality of pores formed by removing a removable additive, a portion of the pores being connected and establishing fluid flow paths through the article; flowing a fluid through the plurality of pores of the porous article; the fluid comprising a first component having a surface energy less than 40 milliNewton per meter at 25° C. and a second component having a surface energy greater than 40 mN/m at 25° C.; wherein the fluoropolymer is selected such that the first component of the fluid has a better wettability with the fluoropolymer than the second component of the fluid.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns methods of treating systemic, regional, or local inflammation from a patient suffering or at risk of inflammation comprising administration of a therapeutically effective dose of a sorbent that sorbs an inflammatory mediator in said patient. In some preferred embodiments, the sorbent is a biocompatible organic polymer.
Abstract:
Provided herein are materials and methods of reducing contamination in a biological substance or treating contamination in a subject by one or more toxins comprising contacting the biological substance with an effective amount of a sorbent capable of sorbing the toxin, wherein the sorbent comprises a plurality of pores ranging from 50 Å to 40,000 Å with a pore volume of 0.5 cc/g to 5.0 cc/g and a size of 0.05 mm to 2 cm and sorbing the toxin. Also provided are kits to reduce contamination by one or more toxins in a biological substance comprising a sorbent capable of sorbing a toxin, wherein the sorbent comprises a plurality of pores ranging from 50 Å to 40,000 Å with a pore volume of 0.5 cc/g to 5.0 cc/g and a size of 0.05 mm to 2 cm and a vessel to store said sorbent when not in use together with packaging for same.
