Abstract: The present invention relates to micellar nanocomplexes and a method of forming the same. The micellar nanocomplex comprises a micelle and an agent encapsulated within said micelle, where the micelle comprises a polymer-flavonoid conjugate, wherein said polymer is bonded to the B ring of said flavonoid. The micellar nanocomplex may have useful applications as a drug-delivery system.

Abstract: A multi-ply absorbent sheet includes a first absorbent ply of cellulosic sheet; a second absorbent ply of cellulosic sheet; and a ply bonding adhesive interposed between the first absorbent ply and the second absorbent ply, the ply-bonding adhesive thereby adhering said absorbent plies together. The ply-bonding adhesive comprises polyvinyl alcohol and nanofibrillated cellulose. In a particularly preferred embodiment the adhesive is applied as a dilute aqueous composition to tissue plies and the nanofibrillated cellulose has a Characteristic Breaking Length of 6.5 km or above.

Abstract: A composite material comprising 10-98 wt. % of a bio-based particulate or fibrous filler and at least 2 wt. % of a polyester derived from an aliphatic polyalcohol with 2-15 carbon atoms and a polyacid, wherein the polyacid comprises at least 10 wt. % of tricarboxylic acid.Preferably, the filler is in the form of particles, fibers, and/or random or non-random layers. A plant-based filler may be used, in particular a cellulosic or lignocellulosic material, more in particular one or more materials selected from wood chips, wood flakes, sawdust, pulp, e.g., pulp of (recycled) paper or other fiber pulp, and plant-derived fibers such as cotton, linen, flax, and hemp. An animal-derived filler, in particular an animal-derived fiber such as wool, hair, silk, or feathers may also be used.Preferably the polyalcohol is selected from one or more of glycerol, sorbitol, xylitol, mannitol, 1,2-propane diol, 1,3-propane diol, and 1,2-ethane diol, in particular glycerol. The polyacid preferably is an aliphatic diacid or triacid with 3-15 carbon atoms. Examples of suitable acids include citric acid, succinic acid, and itaconic acid.The composite material according to the invention has fire-retardant properties, which makes it particularly suitable for applications where fire-retardancy is an issue.

Abstract: A thermoplastic resin composition of the invention contains a cellulose-containing solid material obtained after heat treatment of a botanical biomass as a raw material in a mixed solvent of water and at least one alcohol selected from aliphatic alcohols having 4 to 8 carbon atoms, and a thermoplastic resin. Accordingly, a thermoplastic resin composition can be provided, which, as compared with a case of incorporating conventional cellulose nanofibers or lignocellulose nanofibers in a resin composition, simplifies the production step, improves miscibility with a thermoplastic resin and improves thermal stability.

Abstract: A binder composition for nonaqueous battery electrodes is prepared by adding a small amount of an acetylene glycol compound to an aqueous polymer emulsion obtained by emulsion polymerization of a monomer mixture comprising from 15 to 70% by mass of styrene (a), from 20 to 80% by mass of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylate (b), from 1 to 10% by mass of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid (c), from 0.1 to 5% by mass of a crosslinkable ethylenically unsaturated monomer (d), and from 0 to 20% by mass of another monoethylenically unsaturated monomer (e). When the above binder composition is used, an active material is not peeled off in the step of cutting a collector even when a small amount of the binder is used, and a nonaqueous battery excellent in a charge-discharge cycle property can be produced.
