    Abstract: A non-contact sensor system controls movement of a door moving in a first direction. The system includes a rigid mounting bracket attached to a leading edge of the door, a transmitter extending a distance beyond a leading edge of the door at a first door end for transmitting a signal toward a second door end. The transmitter is attached to the rigid mounting bracket by a first moveable member configured to engage a surface when the door closes and moving to a retracted position. The sensor system further includes a receiver extending a distance beyond the leading edge of the door at the second door end in alignment with the transmitter for detecting the signal and for generating an output signal. The receiver is attached to the rigid mounting bracket by a second moveable member configured to engage the surface when the door closes and moving to the retracted position.

    Abstract: A door, such as a fire door or a security gate, for blocking a throughway or opening in an exterior or interior wall of a building, such as a doorway or countertop window, has an open position and a closed position. A force, such as gravity, a counter weight or a spring, tends to move the door toward its closed position. In the case of the fire door, a disengageable stop holds the door in its open position. The disengageable stop includes a brake actuator for releasing a brake. An expandable linkage, having a normal length and having an elongate length when an external force is applied thereto, has a first end connected to the brake actuator. A second end of the expandable linkage is connected to a fire condition sensitive device, which releases the second end upon a fire indicative condition. With the fire door, or any other type of door, a DC generator is connected to the door and produces power as the door moves from its open position to its closed position. A DC motor is also connected to the door and has an ability to move the door from its closed position to its open position. A first power terminal is connected to the motor, and adapted to receive a second terminal of a portable, rechargeable DC battery.

    Abstract: A self-opening and self-closing device enabling entry into a controlled access area includes a gate with two laterally retractable panels that may be opened by inserting a ticket or access card into a control mechanism. Each of the panels is controlled by a respective motor operated by the control mechanism. Each panel is secured to at least two runner members that are each operated by a roller secured to a link arm. The link arms are rotationally interconnected and rotated by the respective motor. Simultaneous rotation of the arms in opposite directions moves the two panels together (or apart) and thus closes (or opens) the entry device by moving each panel into a position in which it is locked by the respective arm in the horizontal position.

    Abstract: A time delay release mechanism has a brake actuator including an actuation member movable between engaged and released positions. The actuation member, when in the engaged position, operatively engages a fire barrier for preventing closure thereof. The actuation member, when in the released position, is operatively disengaged from the fire barrier such that the release mechanism does not prevent closure thereof. The brake actuator includes an actuation driver which, when receiving electrical power, moves the actuation member to the released position. A timer, when receiving electrical power or when power thereto is interrupted for a duration less than a predetermined time period, disengages from the actuation member allowing the actuation driver, when power thereto is initially interrupted, to move the actuation member to the engaged position. The timer engages the actuation member, when power to the timer is interrupted for a duration greater than the predetermined time period, to move the actuation member to the released position thereby overriding the actuation driver to allow closure of the fire barrier. The timer disengages from the actuation member when power to the timer is restored and the actuation driver retains the actuation member in the released position when power to the actuation driver is restored, thereby automatically resetting the brake actuator and timer.
