Abstract: A method and system for controlling home-automation devices in a dwelling in which: a list of the home-automation devices is determined; each home-automation device is associated with an icon and with an alphanumeric identifier; an image of at least part of the dwelling is obtained; the image is displayed on the touch screen; a selection of an icon from a list of icons is detected; a positioning of the icon in the image and storage of the position of the icon determined is detected; a pressing on the image at the position of the stored icon is detected; and a command to the central unit intended for the home-automation device with which the icon is associated is generated and another icon linked to the icon the position of which is stored is displayed if the pressing at the position of the icon in the image is detected.

Abstract: A set top/back box and system and method for providing a remote control device are disclosed. In one embodiment, one or more wireless transceivers are located within a housing, which also interconnectively includes television input/output, a processor, and memory. The set top/back box may establish a pairing with a programmable device, such as a proximate wireless-enabled interactive handheld device having a touch screen display, whereby formatted parallel audiovisual experience instructions, including virtual buttons, may be transmitted to the programmable device for display on the touch screen display to create an experience parallel to the experience on the television. The set top/back box receives and processes virtual remote control functionality input instructions from the programmable device to control amenities associated with the set top/back box.

Abstract: A remote controller and an image display apparatus having the same are disclosed. The remote controller includes a key input unit for receiving a specific key input, a touch screen for receiving a touch input, a wireless communication unit for transmitting and receiving data to and from an image display apparatus, and a controller for controlling the touch screen to display usage mode information in response to a user input to the key input unit. The controller is configured to, in response to a first touch input for selecting at least one of at least one usage mode indicated by the usage mode information displayed on the touch screen, enter the selected usage mode, and control the touch screen to display a user interface corresponding to the selected usage mode.

Abstract: Systems and methods for updating a control device may include receiving identifying information about an appliance, receiving identifying information about a component of the appliance, and sending a query to a remote server including information about the appliance and the component. The remote server may provide a response including configuration information for the control device, with a command for the appliance and a command that is specific to the component. A first input of the control device may be mapped to the command for the appliance, and a second input of the control device may be mapped to the command that is specific to the component, etc. When the second input is received, a command that is specific to the component may be generated.

Abstract: By transmitting a remote controlled device identifier through an optical signal emitted by a remote controlled device to a remote control pointed at the remote controlled device, the remote control is able to address the remote controlled device via a communication network and be paired with the remote controlled device. As the remote control just has to be pointed at the remote controlled device that is to be paired the pairing is intuitive. A verification unit can be added to the remote controlled device that transmits a challenge via the optical signal to the remote control. The remote control creates a response and transmits the response to the remote controlled device for verification by the verification unit. If the verification is successful the pairing is allowed. As the challenge can only be extracted from the optical signal, access to the room in which the remote controlled device is locate dis required in order to gain control over the remote controlled device. A hack solely over the communication network is prevented as the challenge is not available on the communication network.

The parameter is updated according to a value of the threshold in a case where the operation amount exceeds the threshold.

Abstract: A portable electronic device with a touch-sensitive display (such as a cellular telephone) provides a wireless remote control for an entertainment device (such as a consumer-electronic device). Based on device-state information that specifies a current state of the entertainment device (which is determined by an audio/video (A/V) hub that communicates with the entertainment device) and one or more related states of the entertainment device, the A/V hub may generate user-interface information that specifies a user interface that includes one or more virtual command icons. Note that the one or more related states are related to the current state in a state diagram by corresponding operations that transition the entertainment device from the current state to the one or more related states. Then, the A/V hub provides the user interface to the portable electronic device. In this way, the A/V hub device dynamically adapts the user interface.

Abstract: A method for automatically transmitting an activation signal from a trainable transceiver to a remote electronic system, includes receiving, at a control circuit of the trainable transceiver, image data from an image data source; determining, using the control circuit, if the received image data matches one or more reference images stored in memory and associated with the remote electronic system; and determining, in response to a match between the received image data and the one or more reference images, if the trainable transceiver is approaching the remote electronic system. The method includes, in response to determining that the trainable transceiver is approaching the remote electronic system, formatting an activation signal to control the remote electronic system and transmitting, using a transceiver circuit, the activation signal formatted to control the remote electronic system.
