Abstract: A method of performing alternate frequency switching in a radio includes tuning the radio to a primary frequency. A candidate alternate frequency is identified. It is determined whether the candidate alternate frequency is a third order inter-modulation artifact. Tuning is switched from the primary frequency to the candidate alternate frequency only if it is determined in the determining step that the candidate alternate frequency is not a third order inter-modulation artifact.

Abstract: A system that incorporates the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method for measuring a power level in at least a portion of a plurality of resource blocks occurring in a radio frequency spectrum, wherein the measuring occurs for a plurality of time cycles to generate a plurality of power level measurements, calculating a baseline power level according to at least a portion of the plurality of power levels, determining a threshold from the baseline power level, and monitoring at least a portion of the plurality of resource blocks for signal interference according to the threshold. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: A system that incorporates the subject disclosure may include, for example, a device comprising a memory to store instructions and a processor coupled to the memory, wherein responsive to executing the instructions, the processor performs operations. The operations comprise receiving signals over a spectrum of frequencies, providing location data of the device to a base station, receiving a request from a base station to perform a spectral analysis of the signals, detecting an interference among the signals, and providing, in response to the request, data to the base station regarding a source of the interference, wherein the data comprises a location of the source relative to the device, spectral data for identifying the source, and a time a frequency of occurrence of the interference. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are described for filtering wireless signals. For example, one embodiment of the invention comprises: one or more radios to receive a plurality of wireless signals within a defined spectrum; an energy detection and filtering module to filter received wireless signals based on a detected energy level of the received wireless signals and in accordance with a set of energy-based filtering parameters, the energy detection and filtering module to output energy-filtered wireless signals; and a signal characteristic analysis and filtering module to analyze and filter the energy-filtered wireless signals based on characteristics of the received wireless signals in accordance with a set of signal analysis filtering parameters to output energy-and-characteristic filtered wireless signals.

Abstract: A method of processing interference received in a wireless network, the interference comprising a non-linear product of at least one downlink signal of the wireless network, is provided. The method includes intercepting a plurality of optical links, each optical link being between a respective baseband processing unit of a plurality of baseband processing units and a respective radio head of a plurality of radio heads, to provide a plurality of downlink and uplink data streams. The method includes detecting interference in an uplink data stream representing signals received at a first uplink carrier frequency caused by non-linear products of at least a signal at a first downlink carrier frequency represented by a downlink data stream. The method includes generating an indication comprising information relating to an uplink carrier frequency experiencing interference and at least one downlink carrier frequency causing interference.

Abstract: A cellular radio architecture that includes a receiver module having a delta-sigma modulator that converts analog signals to digital signals and a Fast-Fourier transform (FFT) circuit that converts the digital signals to frequency spectrum signals. The architecture also includes a moving average circuit that smoothes out the frequency spectrum signals by applying a moving average to the signals. The architecture further includes a differentiator circuit that differentiates the frequency spectrum signals to make the signals linear, and a minimum finding circuit that converts the differentiated frequency spectrum signals into positive values for frequencies above a notch frequency in the differentiated signals and negative values for frequencies below the notch frequency in the differentiated signals. A transition between the positive and negative values is compared to a desired notch frequency value, and if the difference is greater than a predetermined threshold, an adaptive control circuit calibrates the modulator.

Abstract: Mechanisms for interferer detection can detect interferers by detecting elevated signal amplitudes in one or more of a plurality of bins (or bands) in a frequency range between a maximum frequency (fMAX) and a minimum frequency (fMIN). To perform rapid interferer detection, the mechanisms downconvert an input signal x(t) with a local oscillator (LO) to a complex baseband signal xI(t)+jxQ(t). xI(t) and xQ(t) are then multiplied by m unique pseudorandom noise (PN) sequences (e.g., Gold sequences) gm(t) to produce m branch signals for I and m branch signals for Q. The branch signals are then low pass filtered, converted from analog to digital form, and pairwise combined by a pairwise complex combiner. Finally, a support recovery function is used to identify interferers.

Abstract: Mobile Networks using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) and or spread spectrum modulation and demodulation techniques process in mobile devices spread spectrum signals into OFDM signals. A first mobile device receives and demodulates a spread spectrum modulated signal into a baseband spread spectrum signal and processes the baseband spread spectrum signal into a first OFDM signal. The first OFDM signal is transmitted to a second mobile device. In the second mobile device the received first OFDM signal is demodulated and processed into a second OFDM signal. The second OFDM signal is transmitted in the mobile network. Alternatively, the first mobile device receives, instead of a spread spectrum signal a modulated OFDM signal. The mobile device has a motion detector which generates a motion detector signal for control of the mobile device. The mobile device has a heart rate sensor and measures the heart rate.
